Medical assistance programs include:
​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): Coverage includes such things as doctor, hospital, prescription drugs, counseling, dental and glasses. Insurance for children up to age 19 at no cost to the family if the income is below certain income levels found on the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the family income is below 140%, the children may be eligible with or without private health insurance. If there is insurance, CHIP will pay the deductibles, co-insurance, and possibly some medical services not covered by the private insurance.
​Medicaid: Health care coverage for people who qualify. To be eligible for Medicaid, individuals must fall into a coverage group and meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility criteria. Provides help for older adults and people with disabilities.

Many children love the fun of attending summer camps, and children with special physical or medical challenges are no exception.Sanford Children's provides camps designed for children with specific challenges or illnesses. All camps take place at barrier-free locations and are staffed with Sanford Children's professionals to ensure children have a safe and fun experience.
The 2026 Sanford Children's Summer Camps include Bring it On for children with cancer and pediatric cancer survivors, scheduled for June 21 - 27, 2026; and Spirit Camp for children diagnosed with spina-bifida set for July 12-18, 2026.
Both camps will be held at Joy Ranch, eight miles northwest of Watertown, South Dakota.

The Office of Homeless Education facilitates the enrollment, attendance, and success of children and youth in transitional housing in the Sioux Falls School District.
The term "homeless children and youth" is defined by law as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including those who are sharing the housing of other persons; are living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or campgrounds; are living in emergency or transitional shelters; are abandoned in hospitals; are awaiting placement in foster care; are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus/train stations or similar settings; and migratory children living in the above circumstances.
Referrals are made for assistance with various needs the student may have.

EHS Home Based Services: A home visitor meets with eligible women who are pregnant and/or families with children under the age of 3 once per week for 1 1/2 hours (at a regularly scheduled time). Group socialization meetings are held twice per month.
Child Development Center: Madison and Sioux Falls (ages 4 weeks - 3 years) can receive early childhood services and childcare each day year-round at ICAP's childcare center.
