The Mobile Food Distribution, a program of Feeding South Dakota, distributes free food to individuals and families throughout the state. Each family receives nutritious foods such as fresh and frozen produce, meat, shelf-stable items, dairy products, boxed meals, and more. The types of food distributed vary depending on what is available at the current time. Distributions operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests can receive food once each calendar month. Guests can establish someone to pick up food for them by completing the English Proxy form or the Spanish Proxy form. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. YFS Home-Based Head Start is a federally-funded, no-cost, parent-focused educational program that serves income-eligible families with children, birth to age 5, and expectant parents. YFS Home-Based Head Start strives to support parents as their child's primary educators and advocates. Degreed staff work with families in their homes to provide parents with tools and resources that increase their family's self-sufficiency and enhance their children's social skills and school readiness. Provides individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with experience in anxiety, mood, ADHD, depression, trauma, grief, sexual abuse, domestic violence, low self-esteem, self-harm behaviors, anger management, assisting children affected by divorce, behavior management, attachment issues, personality disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. Specialties include trauma work utilizing trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapies, play therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Provides Public Health Nursing and Maternal Child Healthcare Services through various programs. General public health services include professional nursing and nutrition information and guidance on health, safety, and nutrition for individuals, families, and communities. Services such as influenza vaccinations and screenings for blood pressure, hearing, vision, and hemoglobin are available at a fee. Maternal Child Healthcare provides Infant Sleep Safety services, immunizations, and pregnancy support services. Infant Sleep Safety services provide education on infant safe sleep practices and link families to resources when the purchase of a crib is a financial hardship. ​Immunizations services are available for children from birth through age 18 for all universally recommended vaccinations including influenza. The Vaccines for Children's Program provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, have insurance that does not cover vaccinations, are Medicaid eligible, or are Native American or Alaskan Native. For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown and Sisseton locations are also able to provide car seats for all ages at no cost.

Services provided by the Division of Child Support include locating noncustodial parents, establishing paternity, establishing or modifying child support and medical support orders, enforcing support orders, enforcing alimony if a child support order is being enforced, and collecting and processing support payments.

Must have a referral from a medical provider prior to evaluation and treatment depending on insurance requirements. The outpatient center is equipped to treat a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. The Auditor is the keeper of County records and acts as a bookkeeper of County business. The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up; Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County. Welfare services include medical assistance, utilities assistance for disconnect notices on heating bills, and burial/funeral assistance. All assistance is based on eligibility guidelines. All applicants are required by law to repay the county for assistance given, per SDCL 28-14. County is payer of last resort after all other resources have been utilized.

The Center for Disabilities LEND Clinic works to improve the health of infants and children with neurodevelopmental and related disabilities. The Center for Disabilities helps families who are interested in learning how to support their child's strengths and address their weaknesses and health care needs. The South Dakota LEND Developmental Clinic provides a free interdisciplinary evaluation to children who are between six months and six years old who may have a developmental concern. The evaluation is offered once a month at the USD Sanford School of Medicine Health Science Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

WIC provides nutrition education to help make healthy eating choices, breastfeeding education for expectant and new mothers looking to learn more about their infant nutrition options, referrals to connect families with quality medical care and other community services, and food benefits to help families purchase nutritious groceries at participating businesses statewide.

To educate, advocate for and empower survivors of domestic abuse and violence (as well as coercive control, human trafficking, sexual assault, dating abuse and violence, child abuse, adults molested as children, other victims of violence crimes, stalking and elder abuse) and their dependents. Engages communities in promoting no tolerance of domestic abuse and violence. Services include answers crisis calls 24/7 and follow ups with victims, Gives referrals and maintains a Shelter Safe House in Redfield (7 beds for up to 10 victims), Assists victims in finding attorneys, obtaining protection orders, attending court, and working with law enforcement. Also assists victims find jobs and housing to work towards independent living and works as medical advocates by accompanying victims to the hospital when obtaining medical assistance for injuries or sexual assault. Brings awareness to help prevent acts of violence by speaking to church groups and civic organizations as well as presentations in all 7 public schools in the tri-county area to teach awareness of bullying and safe dating to 8th graders and safety when starting college to high school seniors.

In-school mentoring program to positively impact area youth through fostering one-to-one friendships with caring adult mentors who help facilitate positive character. By matching adult volunteers with a young youth in the community, one-on-one relationships between the Big Friend and Little Friend, enriches the lives of the young person and their family.  Accomplished through strengthening communication, life skill and team building, strengthening the entire family using community resources, hope and inspiration, and relationships with caring adult mentors. Students are referred to the program by the Yankton School District.

The Old Courthouse Museum was Minnehaha County's first courthouse, built in 1889 with a 165 foot clock tower. The museum features three floors of history related exhibits, along with a variety of educational programming including historic walking tours, kids activities including summer camps, concerts, and much more.

Community Friendship Gardens Garden plots are available for a $34.00 fee, please call for an application and information. Garden Guidelines and Rules: All plots and surrounding areas must be kept free of weeds, trash, and litter. Plots need to be cleaned up by October 15 of each year so that tilling can be done for the following year. Don't forget to harvest all of your crops. Any fencing must be removed at the end of the season before the City does their tilling. Forestry Tree branches are to be trimmed and cut to a minimum height of thirteen and one-half (13½) feet above the street or alley level to allow ample space for the movement of city maintenance and garbage disposal equipment. All existing hedges and shrubs on the boulevard or parking strips shall be trimmed to a height of thirty inches as measured from the gutter level of the street. Trees shall be planted at a distance (30 feet) apart as determined by the Parks and Recreation Board considering the ultimate size of the variety of tree involved. Please call for a free planting permit and staking the location for boulevard trees. A free tree removal permit is issued by this office if you wish to remove trees or stumps that are located on the boulevard or in an alley area.
