Providing free lunch for children 18 years old or younger. Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota are funding lunch at no charge for seniors (60+) accompanying their grandchildren. ​The Black Hills Area Community Foundation will fund lunch for adults (19-59 years old) accompanying their children. Meals are either a hot or cold lunch including a grain, protein, fruit/vegetable, and milk. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. Before submitting a request, families should first explore discounts, reduced rates, and any other available local or state funding sources. When additional support is still needed, The Foster Network may help submit eligible requests through One Simple Wish, which connects specific needs with donors who choose to fulfill them. Furniture Assistance- The Foster Network helps connect families with bedroom furniture when a new placement, changing household needs, or sibling group placement creates an immediate need.

Purpose is to help residents of Sturgis / Newell who call in to request assistance, or need referrals to deal with life's challenges. The phones are not manned 24/7. For immediate assistance, dial 911 (emergencies) or 211 (for information and referral). Frequently takes calls about rent, utilities, and food.

Financial Assistance: Utility Assistance for past due and disconnection notices including water, lights, and heating. To be screened for utility assistance or for information about current eligibility guidelines, please call 605-342-0982. Non-Financial Assistance Programs: Food Pantry: For those needing assistance with food. Clothing Vouchers: For those needing assistance for clothing. Assistance may only be given 1 time every 6 months. Household Boxes: For those needing assistance with items used to cook and eat a meal. A lease must be shown to the caseworker in order to receive assistance. Assistance is limited according to what is available at the time. Pathway of Hope: Program for eligible families. Long term case management program to help families move beyond crisis into stability and becoming self-sufficient. Families will be required to meet with a caseworker to design a plan to meet goals, needs and objectives (ex. goal setting, assistance getting healthcare, educational opportunities, etc).

Area teams provide free, nutritious, sack lunches to children up through high school graduation. The refrigerated lunches are available at the Custer YMCA. YMCA staff supervise the distribution of one lunch per child. There is no registration required and no eligibility limits.

A food pantry that can be utilized up to 1 time per month for those in need in the Central City, Deadwood, and Lead area.

The Mobile Food Distribution, a program of Feeding South Dakota, distributes free food to individuals and families throughout the state. Each family receives nutritious foods such as fresh and frozen produce, meat, shelf-stable items, dairy products, boxed meals, and more. The types of food distributed vary depending on what is available at the current time. Distributions operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests can receive food once each calendar month. Guests can establish someone to pick up food for them by completing the English Proxy form or the Spanish Proxy form. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. Rural Office of Community Services, Inc offers the following basic needs services:

• Emergency Rental Assistance

Must be behind (i.e.: if rent is due on the 5th, come for assistance after the 5th). Eviction notice is not required, however, there will be a form the landlord needs to complete the verify rent is past due.

• Emergency Utility Assistance

Must be behind AND have disconnection notice. Employment Program Food Vouchers Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Public Transportation Pass Program

• Security deposit or first months rent

Provides the food vouchers, prescription expense assistance (medicine only), vision expense assistance (eyeglasses and contacts), and personal care items (laundry soap, cleaning supplies, and hygiene items). Please note, prescription assistance is for those without insurance and it is for one time only! Personal care assistance is once in a calendar year.

A youth organization that provides a safe place for kids to go after school and during the summer on week days. Members participate in a variety of activities such as homework help/tutoring, organized sports programs, Youth for Unity, Teen Center, and guided activities on character and leadership, education and career skills, and healthy living/active lifestyles. Snacks are provided.

Cougar Cupboard works to reduce food insecurity among USF students by providing students in need with food (non-perishable and fresh) and hygiene items.

Provides a food pantry consists of shelf-stable food items, school supplies, household items, and hygiene items. Applications for food assistance are available by visiting the T4 Foundation office or can be sent via email.

A faith-based outreach serving Harrisburg and the surrounding area, affiliated with Feeding South Dakota and AmpleHarvest.org. Available services include food (offers meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and dairy products), cleaning supplies, and personal care items.

CSFP program (Commodities): Provides healthy food once a month to low income elderly. A 25-28 lb. box of healthy food and 2-lbs of cheese available once a month. TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program): Provides emergency food assistance at no cost. The only requirement for TEFAP recipients is self-declaration that they fall within the TEFAP income eligibility guidelines. Food Pantry - client choice pantry: Available to those with a gross household income no more than 185% of poverty level. Participants can shop once a month. Quantity of food is based on the size of household. Mitchell Food Pantry is an equal opportunity provider.
