A national grant assistance program that provides financial assistance to eligible American Legion Auxiliary members who are impacted by a natural disaster or in a time of financial crisis. Disaster Assistance: Applicants must either received damage to their primary residence, been displaced/evacuated from their residence or experienced basic out-of-pocket emergency expenses. Hardship Assistance: Applicants have to have past due expenses related to their primary residence and/or basic household utilities. Grants are awarded for $3,000 per grantee and one grant (disaster or hardship) will be awarded in a 12-month period.

Provides both economic and medical assistance to residents of Beadle County on a one time basis. Economic assistance is for current amounts only (no overdue bills). No payment for deposits of any kind. Rent, Utility assistance for current bills may be available for water, lights, and heating, and Medical, hospitalization, and burial assistance requires pre-approval if not for emergency services. All other resources must have been exhausted first. Assistance does require payback and county lien is filed until paid in full.

Provides gas, electric or water utility assistance for bills at least 30 days past due with a shut off notice (cannot help with current bills). Call for qualifications and appointment time. The Emergency Food Assistance Program helps supplement the diets of low-income families by providing emergency food and nutrition assistance at no cost. Picture ID and proof of residence required and 2 forms to complete. Eligible every 30 days up to 4 times a year. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. Household Voucher: Items used to cook and eat a meal or other household goods such as bed linens, towels, etc. are available from the thrift store 1 time every 3 years. Items are based upon availability and may vary. To qualify, a picture ID is required along with a current lease or rental agreement. Clothing Voucher: Clothing assistance is available every 6 months per individual from thrift store. To qualify, a picture ID is required along with verification for additional individuals in the household such as medical cards, birth certificates, etc. Items are based upon availability and may vary. Pathway of Hope: Long term case management program to help individuals and families move beyond crisis into stability and self sufficiency. To qualify, individuals are required to meet with a caseworker to design a plan to meet goals, needs and objectives (goal setting, financial counseling, assistance getting healthcare, educational opportunities, etc.). Helps residents of Yankton County with the following: food pantry, utility assistance, including past due and disconnect bills for water, lights, and heating, gasoline, partial rent, representative payee system, and emergency medication assistance. Contact Center does not help with any kind of deposit (rent, utility, etc.)

Provides support to veterans through financial aid, legal guidance, transportation, therapy, treatment access, disability claims assistance, and equine therapy. Offers advocacy services to address barriers veterans face. If direct help isn't available, staff will connect individuals to the appropriate resources.

LIHEAP (Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program) Heating, cooling, weatherization and crisis assistance for tribal members within Pine Ridge Tribal Land. CSBG (Community Service Block Grant) Limited household assistance for self-sufficiency, homelessness, medical, emergency travel, youth and community activities.

The Auditor is the keeper of County records and acts as a bookkeeper of County business. The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up, Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County. Notary Public services available. Some fees may apply. Welfare services include medical assistance, utilities assistance for disconnect notices on heating bills, and burial/funeral assistance. All assistance is based on eligibility guidelines. All applicants are required by law to repay the county for assistance given, per SDCL 28-14. County is payer of last resort after all other resources have been utilized.

For immediate assistance, dial 911 (emergencies) or 211 (for information and referral). Frequently takes calls about rent, utilities, and food.

Provides the ability to help individuals apply for county assistance regarding medical or utilities bills if it is an emergency and (in the case of a medical issue) the person has no insurance.

My Neighbor serves as a bridge, offering assistance and resources through: information and referral; assessing the needs for financial assistance to include gaps and ensuring that the funding gets to those who truly have crisis needs, and using the available resources and tools to help solve situations, to prevent this same situation from re-surfacing, and to improve someone's situation for the long term and in essence creating a self-reliant member of the Brookings community. The program can cover some items that are not normally covered (i.e. daycare); it depends on the situation, but the key is based upon self sufficiency. Also, people do not qualify just because of income, low or otherwise, the eligibility comes from the specific case. This program is to be considered a LAST resort, meaning referrals will be given to clients to check out before any assistance is given. The program MAY BE ABLE TO HELP with the following: rent, rent deposit, utility bills that are current, past due, or disconnection notice for water, lights, heating, and trash, utility deposits for water, lights, and heating, daycare, small car repairs, car payment (if employed), and small health care needs. Employment is the main criteria for assistance. Recent job loss can be considered if employment history is consistent. The program DOES NOT HELP with the following: cable, cell/phone, internet, shelter in the form of temporary housing or hotel stays, transportation in the form of gasoline, bus tickets, or taxi, personal needs such as furniture, clothing, laundry, personal or hygiene needs, Christmas presents, food or meals, and prescriptions My Neighbor program is for people that LIVE and WORK in Brookings.

Services provided by this office are a last resort. If eligibility criteria are met, assistance may include burial assistance, medical expense assistance, utility assistance, and rent assistance.

If eligible, temporary emergency financial assistance is available for children's needs of up to $1,500. All other avenues must be exhausted before applying for assistance.

Rural Office of Community Services, Inc offers the following basic needs services:

• Emergency Rental Assistance

Must be behind (i.e.: if rent is due on the 5th, come for assistance after the 5th). Eviction notice is not required, however, there will be a form the landlord needs to complete the verify rent is past due.

An energy assistance program available for Nebraska Public Power District customers in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The program is open October - May of each year, and may be available during the summer months, depending on the programs funding. The maximum amount is $225.00 every 12 months.
