The program assists with household heating costs for propane and fuel oil July 1 - April 30. For electric and gas, meter readings October 1 - May 15 are eligible for payment. Energy funds are distributed on a first come first serve basis. Applications received after March 31 will be processed for the next heating season. The program is designed to provide a supplemental payment to the primary heating cost of a home. Eligibility and assistance amount is based on household income, heating type and region, and number of persons in household. In heating crisis situations, such as disconnect for primary heating source, refusal to deliver or cash on delivery, eviction (if heat is included in rent), or furnace problems, contact the office for emergency assistance. Provides assistance with all utilities including electricity, natural gas, and water to those with a disconnect notice. Assistance is limited to $100.00 once every six months.
Responsible for commissioners proceedings, agendas, and records, accounting records, revenue, and expense reports, voter registration and election, businesses applications for beer and liquor licenses, figures real estate and mobile home taxes, handles county bid lettings, manages medical indigent, county payroll and employee drug and alcohol testing programs, and the Auditor and Treasurer work in conjunction to pay county bills. This office also oversees one time, last resort/emergency financial assistance in the form of an interest-free loan for residents who need help with burial expenses, medical indigent claims, prescription payment assistance, rent payment assistance (to prevent eviction), and utility payment assistance for current and past due bills regarding water, lights, heating, phone, and trash.

A national grant assistance program that provides financial assistance to eligible American Legion Auxiliary members who are impacted by a natural disaster or in a time of financial crisis. Disaster Assistance: Applicants must either received damage to their primary residence, been displaced/evacuated from their residence or experienced basic out-of-pocket emergency expenses. Hardship Assistance: Applicants have to have past due expenses related to their primary residence and/or basic household utilities. Grants are awarded for $3,000 per grantee and one grant (disaster or hardship) will be awarded in a 12-month period.

Provides resources to help those experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness through Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG). These grants assist people to quickly regain stability in permanent housing. Funding for individuals requesting assistance will be based on priority and availability of ESG program funds. ESG funds are designated to serve individuals/families that are at risk of becoming homeless who are currently homeless. Types of assistance include housing relocation and stabilization services, financial assistance, and short and medium term rental assistance which includes rental application fee assistance, security deposit assistance, pro-rated first month's rent, rental assistance up to 24 months, and past due rent and utilities assistance.

The county is a resource of last resort, available only after all other resources have been exhausted. Any applicant who receives assistance will have a lien filed in their name for that amount and will be responsible for repayment of that lien to the County. Requests for assistance with: - Rent/Deposit Partial assistance with the current month's rent. Rental deposits are limited to the availability of grant funds. - Mortgage Partial assistance of one month's payment if applicant meets program qualifications. - Utilities Partial assistance with past due bills for water, electric, natural gas and propane usage. Additional utility charges and fees limited to the availability of grant funds. - Transportation Costs Assistance with bus passes or gasoline for verifiable medical appointments or new employment. - Medical Assistance may include emergency prescription medications, specialty physician services, hospitalizations, and insurance premiums. Services may require prior approval. - Burial or Cremation Pennington County residents without resources or family members to assist.

Energy assistance program is available for Nebraska Public Power District customers in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The funds are only available October - May of each year, and not available during the summer months. The maximum amount is $225.00 every 12 months.
Clearinghouse for local food pantry, gas vouchers, utility (including water, electric, and gas bills with a disconnection notice), and rent help. Love Inc is not income based, rather they are need based. If Love, Inc is unable to help, clients will be referred to the appropriate agency. Programs include: Friday Backpack Program (healthy snacks for weekends), Adopt-A-Student Backpack Program (supplies and backpack for the school year), personal care pantry, winter coat drive, Helping Hands Baby Ministry, Love Inc's Clothing Closet (a thrift store for the Canton community), and budgeting classes.

Mortgage and utility assistance for South Dakota residents through Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF). Mortgage assistance: This program is a LOAN program, up to a maximum of $25,000, will be in the form of a zero-interest loan, payable when the property is either transferred/sold or refinanced. Applicants will be required to contact their mortgage service provider to determine if other alternatives are available. Homeowners in need of immediate assistance should contact their loan servicer to discuss alternative options to prevent foreclosure or a HUD-approved Counseling Agency. Available utility assistance is not a loan, but a grant, so utilities will NOT have to be paid back. Must meet the following criteria: Income qualifications (vary by county) Household has experienced a significant financial hardship due to COVID-19 on or after January 21, 2020. (Must be COVID-related) Household can demonstrate a risk of housing instability or homelessness which may include a past due utility or mortgage notice. Link to Application To receive additional funding after their original assistance period has passed applicants should not complete a new application. They will be notified by email when they become eligible to reapply and they can log on to their applicant dashboard to reapply. Applicants are also free to reach out to their caseworker directly with questions about additional funding.

Backpack School program - weekend food for Beresford School students. Faith in Action also networks clients with other organizations/ resources that may help them with their situation.

Services provided might include utility payments on a case by case basis, clothing, food, gas, financial education, training and education assistance, and micro-loans (0% interest) for rent deposit; amount must be repaid.
