Beresford Faith in Action serves individuals and families in need with Food Pantry, Crisis Fund (1 time / year) depending on availability of funds - Rent (can include rent or deposit); Utility assistance including: deposit, past due bill, and disconnect notices for trash, water, lights, and heating; and help with budgeting/financial planning. Backpack School program - weekend food for Beresford School students. Faith in Action also networks clients with other organizations/ resources that may help them with their situation.

The SSVF program provides homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing services to help Veteran families keep, or rapidly transition to permanent housing. For veterans and their families that meet all eligibility criteria and are enrolled with the program, the program can provide: Outreach to Veterans Case management

• Financial assistance (for securing/preserving housing)

Utility assistance for water, lights, and heating for current, past due, disconnection notices, previous address, and deposits Rental assistance Security deposits

• Other financial assistance

Child care costs Moving costs Transportation expense Help applying for Department of Veterans Affairs assistance and other benefits Help connecting Veterans with other community resources and services

Founded on the belief that everyone deserves a home. Pathways offers four different shelter programs:

• Emergency Shelter for Families:

8 rooms designated for households with children. Families will receive 30 days for free in a 12-month period. After 30 days, rent will be charged for extended stay.

• Tier 2 Services:

2 rooms designated for men and women seeking a more permanent residence and access to more services. To qualify for this program, individuals must be employed or be able to pay rent at the start. Total of 4 beds for women and 4 beds for men.

• Re-Entry Program:

Partnership with South Dakota Department of Corrections; provides 8 beds for men who are needing to re-enter the community. These individuals must follow the same guidelines for admission as other clients. Young Adult Transition Program: Provides transitional living and case management for young adults 18 to 24 years old who are experiencing homelessness. 4 beds are available for this purpose and can help people within the age range struggling in the community. Contact Staff for more details. Through the Emergency Solutions Grant, Pathways offers two programs:

• Homeless Prevention

For individuals and families who are unable to pay their rent or utilities and will otherwise be displaced from their residence. Call staff to learn more about eligibility requirements.

• Rapid Re-housing

For individuals who have found potential housing but may not yet have the funds to secure that housing. For those who are eligible, Pathways may be able to pay first month's rent, rental deposit and utility deposit. Call staff to learn more about eligibility requirements. Funding through the Security Deposit Assistance Program allows Pathways to operate a program solely to assist with security deposits.

My Neighbor serves as a bridge, offering assistance and resources through: information and referral; assessing the needs for financial assistance to include gaps and ensuring that the funding gets to those who truly have crisis needs, and using the available resources and tools to help solve situations, to prevent this same situation from re-surfacing, and to improve someone's situation for the long term and in essence creating a self-reliant member of the Brookings community. The program can cover some items that are not normally covered (i.e. daycare); it depends on the situation, but the key is based upon self sufficiency. Also, people do not qualify just because of income, low or otherwise, the eligibility comes from the specific case. This program is to be considered a LAST resort, meaning referrals will be given to clients to check out before any assistance is given. The program MAY BE ABLE TO HELP with the following: rent, rent deposit, utility bills that are current, past due, or disconnection notice for water, lights, heating, and trash, utility deposits for water, lights, and heating, daycare, small car repairs, car payment (if employed), and small health care needs. The program DOES NOT HELP with the following: cable, cell/phone, internet, shelter in the form of temporary housing or hotel stays, transportation in the form of gasoline, bus tickets, or taxi, personal needs such as furniture, clothing, laundry, personal or hygiene needs, Christmas presents, food or meals, and prescriptions My Neighbor program is for people that LIVE and WORK in Brookings.
