Through its community-wide fundraising efforts, the Capital Area United Way helps to support 35 programs and services offered through 15 local United Way funded agencies. Project H.E.R.O. provides milk tickets and emergency transportation tickets to students to ensure they are healthy and able to get to school on time, and ready to learn; and the Lion's Club Vision Screening. Serves as a connecting place for volunteer opportunities. Agencies share that information through a publication in the paper called Volunteer Connections, as well as in the high school newspaper. Also, helps connects groups looking for a project with agencies needing volunteers.

LifeSight provides four primary programs:

• KidsFIRST: provides free vision screenings for pre-school and elementary school children by means of partnerships with area eye care professionals and local volunteers. To schedule a KidsFIRST free vision screening, contact LifeSight at 605-716-6733. Screenings are available for children 6 months of age - 5th grade.
• Gift of Sight: provides sight-saving surgeries to those in our community without the financial means to afford care, helping these individuals regain their vision, and most importantly, independence, mobility and quality of life. This program is available only by referral from an area eye doctor (optometrist or ophthalmologist).

- VisionCARE: provides no-cost eye exams and glasses, critical to one's overall health and wellbeing, to individuals who meet program criteria and have no other option for care, providing a simple but powerful path to helping people see better to live better. • Scholarship Program: Annually awards the LifeSight Dr. Paul L. Zimmerman Memorial Endowed Scholarship to a fourth year student at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine planning to pursue a career in ophthalmology.

LifeSight does not offer Eye Examinations, but serves as a resource and referral contact for those with vision impairment.

Veterans Stand Down event provides education and information about Veteran services and benefits to Veterans and their families in the West River region. The event also includes haircuts, clothing, hygiene products, employment services, legal assistance, housing referrals, eye screening/reading glasses, readjustment counseling. A free meal is served at all locations.

Services include emergency care, 24-hour ambulance services, urgent care, surgical, obstetrics, dental, vision, diabetic clinic, pharmacy, prescription assistance, Women's Health, and immunization clinics. KidSight South Dakota - Providing free vision screening for children 6-months to 18-years old. Mobile screening units are available to daycares, preschools and schools on request. Vision Assistance Program - Individual Lions clubs partner with healthcare professionals to provide vision exams at no or reduced cost and eye glasses at reduced rates to uninsured and income-qualified individuals (200% of federal poverty level). Eyeglasses Collection - Glasses are inspected, cleaned, refurbished, and reused by people in need in developing countries around the world. Donated glasses may be dropped off at Walmart Vision Centers or visit the website for other locations.
