Made up of 5 divisions that collectively maintain the City infrastructure, parks, and vehicles: The Street Division maintains paved and gravel roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and stormwater systems, sign and signal infrastructure, and snow plowing schedules and maps. Also patches potholes, blades gravel roads, and mows along rural road sections. The Parks Division provides maintenance and improvement for the nine City parks. The Water Division operates the City's water wells and maintains the water distribution system. Ensures the supply of quality drinking water meets or surpasses state and federal guidelines. The Sewer Division oversees the sanitary sewer collection system and wastewater processing and treatment The Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance Division services all of the City's fleet and vehicles.

Public Works Department oversees the maintenance and operation of the street, parks, water and wastewater utilities.

The Public Works Department maintains and oversees the following areas: streets, bridges, city-owned buildings, water lines, sewer lines, water and waste water treatment, snow removal, parks, and cemetery.

Canton City Hall houses various city departments, including: Finance Department (assists with budget, utility payments, elections, and business and contractor licensing), Mayor and City Commissioners, utilities (water and sewer), Public Works (assists with government buildings, streets, street lights & traffic signals, snow removal, street cleaning, solid waste and public health), Parks and Recreation, Planning and Zoning, and City Shop.

Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating all activities of city government. They prepare ordinances and resolutions, recommend policy directions, and carries out all other duties as needed.
