For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown and Sisseton locations are also able to provide car seats for all ages at no cost.

A place relating to its region, its community, its children, and their learning wants and needs. The Museum consists of 44,000 square feet of indoor space and 4 acres of prairie. The museum provides classes and camps for children ages 3 - 12 years of age, special sensory-friendly play opportunities for families that need a low-sensory play environment, and free play in the museum exhibits. Exhibits, both inside and outside, are broad-based to include science, engineering, art, literature, culture, geography, and history.

Medical assistance programs include: ​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): Coverage includes such things as doctor, hospital, prescription drugs, counseling, dental and glasses. Insurance for children up to age 19 at no cost to the family if the income is below certain income levels found on the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the family income is below 140%, the children may be eligible with or without private health insurance. If there is insurance, CHIP will pay the deductibles, co-insurance, and possibly some medical services not covered by the private insurance. ​Medicaid: Health care coverage for people who qualify. To be eligible for Medicaid, individuals must fall into a coverage group and meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility criteria. The county is a resource of last resort, available only after all other resources have been exhausted. Any applicant who receives assistance will have a lien filed in their name for that amount and will be responsible for repayment of that lien to the County. Requests for assistance with:

Partial assistance with the current month's rent. Rental deposits are limited to the availability of grant funds.

• Mortgage

Partial assistance of one month's payment if applicant meets program qualifications.

• Utilities

Partial assistance with past due bills for water, electric, natural gas and propane usage. Additional utility charges and fees limited to the availability of grant funds.

• Transportation Costs

Assistance with bus passes or gasoline for verifiable medical appointments or new employment.

• Medical

Assistance may include emergency prescription medications, specialty physician services, hospitalizations, and insurance premiums. Services may require prior approval.

• Burial or Cremation

Pennington County residents without resources or family members to assist.

The EmBe offers a variety of youth programs including:

• Girls on the Run (3rd - 5th grade girls): An afterschool program that helps girls understand themselves, value friendships and teamwork and recognize how they can shape the world at large. Lessons focus on building social, emotional and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits for life. Each season concludes with a non-competitive 5K run.
• Heart and Sole (6th to 8th grade girls): A physical activity-based positive youth development program that develops life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K run. The program helps establish a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Taekwondo (beginning at age 3): A Korean martial art which teaches courtesy, self-control, integrity, perseverance and strong spirit. This program is organized to promote discipline, confidence and focus through taekwondo and other styles of martial arts. Taekwondo at Embe is offered .

• Youth Volleyball (3rd - 6th grade): Providing an opportunity to learn the skills of the game in a recreational, non-competitive, environment. EmBe and Kairos Elite Volleyball Club with Avera Sports collaborate to a provide a seamless experience that fits each child. 10-week leagues are available in the fall and winter. A four-week league is offered in the summer.
• Babysitting Classes (11 - 15 years old): Designed for youth who want to gain knowledge and experience before entering the world of babysitting. Topics covered include what is expected from infants to school age children, activities to do with children of all ages, basic first aid and safety skills, when to ask for help, questions to ask before you agree to baby sit and experiential learning in EmBe's Childcare Center

Camp GOTR (Girls On The Run) (rising 3rd - 5th grade girls): A 4-day camp provides an opportunity for girls to build friendships while enjoying interactive games, physical activity, and creativity through arts and crafts and storytelling. Provides a unique opportunity for all girls, including those with a disability, to develop self-confidence, have fun with friends, and learn life skills. Participation in Girls on the Run during the school year is not a requirement for Camp GOTR..

Provides emergency food assistance for those demonstrating need. Assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis. Application is best done in person, no appointment needed.

Head Start is a comprehensive child development program designed to assist families and their children during the developmental years of 3-5 years of age. The program provides for health care services, educational services, and special needs services for the enrolled child and the opportunity for parents to be engaged in the decision making processes that affect their child's readiness for school. Outpatient services are available to anyone who may currently be experiencing problems which are of an emotional, behavioral, substance abuse, or interpersonal nature. Therapy services include individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, home-based therapy, medication management, substance use individual and group treatment programs, crisis intervention, and telehealth. Diagnostic services include psychiatric evaluation, mental status examination, education assessment, emergency mental health evaluation, and treatment needs assessment for substance abuse problems. Offers walk in assessments for substance use disorder during regular business hours.

Pharmacy services include compounding, immunizations, medication synchronization, Medicare open enrollment, medication services to long-term care facilities, and carries a wide variety of over the counter drugs and medical equipment. ​This pharmacy is also a medication disposal site. Provides food to those who are food insecure in the Yankton School District through 2 programs: The Sack Pack Program provides packs on a weekly basis to school aged children in need of food over the weekend. Families register for Sack Pack at the beginning of the school year. The school staff help distribute the packs. The School Food Pantry is open to any families that are food insecure with children attending school in the Yankton school district. The pantry is open once a month usually on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

Provides services and supports to children and adults with developmental disabilities by providing support, skills, and encouragement needed to achieve hopeful and successful futures. Services provided to program participants include special education, adult day programs, vocational programs, home-based instruction, residential living facilities, consultations, psychiatric services, medication management, counseling, and transition program.
