Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) is a supplemental food program that enables eligible households to obtain a more nutritious diet. Eligibility is determined by income, resources, and household size. Lost, stolen, or damaged EBT (SNAP) cards must call customer service to report the loss of your card. You will need to enter the card number. If you do not have the card, stay on the line for a second prompt and press 2. Reporting an EBT card as lost, stolen, or damaged will result in that card being declined.

Examples of repairs include accessibility ramps, and other accessibility issues, plumbing repair, electrical repair and HVAC repair. A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) - ABWK helps low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes, allowing them to reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. ABWK helps revitalize the appearance of the neighborhood, strengthens connections within the community and helps preserve affordable housing stock. Aging in Place - Partner with families, communities and local organizations to help order adults improve their homes and their quality of life so they can flourish where they live.

The Sioux Falls School District will be providing free breakfasts to any child ages 1-18 from Thursday, May 28, 2026 - Friday, August 7, 2026.There will be no meals served on Friday, July 3, 2026. Note: All meals must be consumed on site and not taken out for consumption. Sioux Falls School District follows all regulations according to the Summer Food Service Program Guidelines. Medical assistance programs include: ​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): Coverage includes such things as doctor, hospital, prescription drugs, counseling, dental and glasses. Insurance for children up to age 19 at no cost to the family if the income is below certain income levels found on the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the family income is below 140%, the children may be eligible with or without private health insurance. If there is insurance, CHIP will pay the deductibles, co-insurance, and possibly some medical services not covered by the private insurance. ​Medicaid: Health care coverage for people who qualify. To be eligible for Medicaid, individuals must fall into a coverage group and meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility criteria. Provides help for older adults and people with disabilities.

Featured health services include emergency and trauma, laboratory, radiology and imaging, medication disposal, surgical suite, physical and occupational therapy, and short stay observation.

A public health nutrition program for income-eligible infants and children up to age 5, pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women. WIC provides nutrition education to help make healthy eating choices, breastfeeding education for expectant and new mothers looking to learn more about their infant nutrition options, referrals to connect families with quality medical care and other community services, and food benefits to help families purchase nutritious groceries at participating businesses statewide.

Must be a resident of Lake County to qualify for assistance. Must fill out application in Welfare Office. Assistance is NOT immediate and must be approved by the County Commissioners at their next scheduled meeting after the application process. Poor relief assistance is the last resort. Must seek assistance from all other agencies and/or groups before applying. One-time assistance only in a 12-month period. Utilities: Must provide a notice of termination from the company/supplier. Available in limited amounts. Applicants must apply for Energy Assistance through the Office of Energy Assistance in Pierre, SD before we may assist. Maximum assistance of $420. Will not pay deposits, late fees or reconnect fees. Rent: Must provide an eviction notice. Housing assistance is available in limited amounts and is paid per scale of household members at a maximum of $500. Will not pay deposits, late fees, rent to immediate family members or rent for residents in subsidized housing. If resident must apply for SD Rental Assistance programs and/or low-income housing before the county may assist. Medical Bills: The hospital services received must constitute emergency, medically necessary services. The hospital and/or patient must demonstrate to the county that it has exhausted all avenues of payment, including the hospital accepting reasonable monthly payments from the patient. No assistance is available for one that has health care insurance. Non-emergency Services - the county does not cover this type of medical assistance. Such as non-emergency hospital/physician/specialist office visits and/or hospital services, medical equipment, medications, health insurance premiums, home health services, dental or eye care and childbirth. Any assistance approved creates a lien against the borrower/applicant and must be paid back to Lake County, SD.

CSFP program (Commodities): Provides healthy food once a month to low income elderly. A 25-28 lb. box of healthy food and 2-lbs of cheese available once a month. TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program): Provides emergency food assistance at no cost. The only requirement for TEFAP recipients is self-declaration that they fall within the TEFAP income eligibility guidelines. Food Pantry - client choice pantry: Available to those with a gross household income no more than 185% of poverty level. Participants can shop once a month. Quantity of food is based on the size of household. Mitchell Food Pantry is an equal opportunity provider.

Provides an opportunity to have infant or toddler car seat checked by trained staff. Arrive at appointment with the car seat already installed in vehicle. Staff will check the seat and assist to make any necessary changes to the installation of the seat.

ICAP Emergency Services helps with emergency utilities and rent (Not available to those residing in Sioux Falls) for income qualified households. Must meet all requirements. Also offers food pantry vouchers to those who qualify.

Horizon Health - Alcester Medical is full-service medical clinic offering the following services - preventative screenings, acute care, chronic care management, well child visits, men's and women's health, immunizations, family planning, lab/x-ray, patient education, care management, DOT exams, after-hours access to care, and Certified Application Counselors for the Health Insurance Marketplace. Also offers behavioral health services: medication management, counseling, case management, integrated care, addiction services, and Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT).

Sanford Webster Clinic is a community clinic for the whole family (Family Medicine), and has urgent health care hours as well.

Services provided to adults with severe mental illness (SMI) including: CARE - Continuous Assistance, Rehabilitation, and Education, IMPACT - Individualized and Mobile Program of Assertive Community Treatment, and Psychiatric Services - assessments and medication management. Also offers telehealth services.

Provides food to meet basic nutritional needs. Assistance is available once per month.

Pharmacy services include immunizations, prescription refills, health screenings, and a medication disposal drop box. - Medication disposal drop-boxes for expired, unused or unwanted controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter medications, including pet medications. Items that are NOT accepted include: trash, regulated medical waste, sharps, syringes, thermometers, hazardous waste, aerosols, illicit drugs, or commercial waste.

Counseling services offered at this agency include individual counseling, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), child abuse survivor counseling for adults, youth counseling, parent counseling,, grief counseling, trauma informed therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and telemental health counseling. ​Also trained in: Accelerated Resolution Therapy - a type of therapy that helps alleviate trauma symptoms.

A 24-hour residential and psychiatric treatment center serving emotionally disturbed and learning disabled children between the ages of 4-14. This program also provides special education services and intensive therapy for children and families who are experiencing difficulty at home, in school, or in the community. Services include day school and residential programs, evaluation services, family supportive services, consultation and training services. Madsen House is designed to provide comprehensive psychiatric diagnosis and assessments, as well as short-term treatment for children ages 4-14 with emotional and behavioral problems. Madsen House Intensive Unit is an eight-bed unit for children ages 4-14 who have severe or chronic emotional and behavioral disorders. Treatment includes psychiatric care, adaptive management, individual, group and family therapy and academic programming. Childcare teams consist of three counselors and one team coordinator, creating a ratio of one staff for every two children.

For anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy, All About U provides crisis pregnancy counseling, help finding emotional support, help finding necessary resources, emotion support throughout adoption and beyond, if adoption is chosen, emergency transitional housing available, and general case management for resources: connection to prenatal care, housing, food, clothing, addiction, and more. For adoptive families, All About U provides training to help them through the adoption process and prepare them to be an adoptive family, home studies, and on-going support for adoptive families.

A community food distribution held on Tuesday mornings at the Kiwanis 4-H Ice Center. ​Groceries are available and varies from week to week.

A monthly ecumenical worship service with children's activities. Each service is hosted by a ministry partner. Worship is followed by a community meal/picnic. Hygiene kits, and snack bags are available based on supply. Need not attend worship to receive the meal, hygiene kits, and snack bags. All are welcome. Need a ride? BAHFH offers an opportunity of homeownership to families that otherwise couldn't afford to purchase one on their own. Applicants must have a need for better housing, the ability to pay an affordable mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity through our "sweat equity" program. Habitat provides homeowners with financial and homeownership counseling, opportunities to work on their own home, and homeownership with a payment they can afford.
