Offers shelter and services for the victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault; with the goal to build self-esteem and confidence so they may live freely and independently as is their God-given right. Services include shelter, 24-hour hotline, food, transportation, counseling, assistance with housing search, assistance with job search, assistance with legal situations, and keeping all information confidential. ​Support group available for victims of abuse and sexual assault facilitated by a licensed counselor for those who have left the abuser, are still living with the abuser but need help to survive, and for those who need to know what to do next. Programs include Common Sense Parenting which is a step-by-step guide for raising responsible children and providing skills to help parents build strong, healthy families. Parenting classes can be arranged for non-English speaking people. Class times vary, call for information.

Comprehensive child development services through home-based, center-based options, includes developmental screening, written individual child development plans, weekly activities to promote child's development, and parent involvement program.

Early Childhood provides children with a learning environment and varied experiences to help them develop socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. Early Childhood provides pre-school activities for 3 and 4 year-old children while encouraging parent participation in all aspects of the program. Early Childhood Programs are offered at a variety of elementary schools in the district. Screenings provide an opportunity to find out more about your young child and his/her development, screenings include: Large muscle development Eye-hand coordination Communication Cognition Vision and hearing Height and weight During screening appointments, children stack small blocks, name colors, jump and hop, cut with scissors, look at pictures, answer questions, and have fun completing other activities. Children birth to 5 are eligible for screening. Infants/toddlers are screened in their homes. Parents will meet with a staff person to discuss options for their child in district early childhood programs.

Pharmacy services, vaccinations, and medical equipment/supplies are offered. All 3 locations serve as medication disposal sites.

Program services integrate language and culture, and provide resources and support for families with children from prenatal to grade 3. Goals of the program include supporting parents/primary caregivers as their child's first and most influential teacher, to increase family literacy, to strengthen family-school-community connections, services for the early identification of children with special needs, parent engagement, whether it be full-time, part-time, or flex-time status, and to promote lifelong learning. Family and Child Education Program (FACE) offers school readiness home-based program, assessments, center-based setting, meals and transportation provided for center-based families, parenting skills, adult education / GED completion, and career planning, college preparation, job readiness.

WIC provides nutrition education to help make healthy eating choices, breastfeeding education for expectant and new mothers looking to learn more about their infant nutrition options, referrals to connect families with quality medical care and other community services, and food benefits to help families purchase nutritious groceries at participating businesses statewide.

Items that are NOT accepted include: trash, regulated medical waste, sharps, syringes, thermometers, hazardous waste, aerosols, illicit drugs, or commercial waste.

Responsible to keep, audit and maintain all accounting records for Brown County as set forth in the accounting manual prescribed by the Auditor-General. Offers the following emergency assistance as a very last resort (individuals must utilize all other local organizations before reaching out to Welfare): Economic Assistance - Rent/Utility shut offs (disconnects) County does not help with deposits, of any kind, reconnect fees or previous/past bills. One-time assistance allowed in a 12 month period for economic assistance. Assistance must be repaid, and failure to repay disqualifies from further assistance. Medical Assistance is only for emergency hospitalizations for which the hospital provided the County a notice of hospitalization. Any other hospital or medical bills must be approved before the procedure is undertaken. Failure to sign up for health care insurance if that option is available and affordable will disqualify someone from assistance. No assistance with prescriptions, medical equipment or therapy(s). Burial All assistance received becomes a poor relief lien and is to be paid back to the county.

Providing free lunch for children 18 years old or younger. Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota are funding lunch at no charge for seniors (60+) accompanying their grandchildren. ​The Black Hills Area Community Foundation will fund lunch for adults (19-59 years old) accompanying their children. Medical assistance programs include: ​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): Coverage includes such things as doctor, hospital, prescription drugs, counseling, dental and glasses. Insurance for children up to age 19 at no cost to the family if the income is below certain income levels found on the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the family income is below 140%, the children may be eligible with or without private health insurance. If there is insurance, CHIP will pay the deductibles, co-insurance, and possibly some medical services not covered by the private insurance. ​Medicaid: Health care coverage for people who qualify. To be eligible for Medicaid, individuals must fall into a coverage group and meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility criteria. Head Start (and early head start) has a long tradition of success in helping at-risk children and their parents with school readiness, making certain that basic health needs are met and that social, emotional, and physical growth continues through life. Head Start programs follow the Early Learning Framework and monitor children's educational growth, as well as provide health and dental screenings. Head Start also supports parents through parenting classes and in setting and realizing education and job goals. They connect parents with resources to manage finances and education, in order to find the path out of poverty.

Offering a clothing assistance program for citizens returning to the community from prison. Men and women who are within one month of being released from prison may receive three sets of clothing, including shirts, pants, underwear, socks, shoes/work boots, sweatshirt, and more. Prison Transition Backpacks that are full of helpful re-entry resources will be given to each person transitioning out of prison.

Provides food to individuals in Marshall County and the communities of Hecla, Houghton, and Claremont. Individuals can contact the food pantry during off hours if they require emergency food.

Provides Public Health Nursing and Maternal Child Healthcare Services through various programs. General public health services include professional nursing and nutrition information and guidance on health, safety, and nutrition for individuals, families, and communities. Services such as influenza vaccinations and screenings for blood pressure, hearing, vision, and hemoglobin are available at a fee. Maternal Child Healthcare provides Infant Sleep Safety services, immunizations, and pregnancy support services. Infant Sleep Safety services provide education on infant safe sleep practices and link families to resources when the purchase of a crib is a financial hardship. ​Immunizations services are available for children from birth through age 18 for all universally recommended vaccinations including influenza. The Vaccines for Children's Program provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, have insurance that does not cover vaccinations, are Medicaid eligible, or are Native American or Alaskan Native. For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown and Sisseton locations are also able to provide car seats for all ages at no cost.

Provides physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Please check with the location to see if provided. Must have a referral from a medical provider prior to evaluation and treatment depending on insurance requirements. The outpatient center is equipped to treat a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. There is also an occupational therapy driver's evaluation and training program available at the West 18th Street location.
