Keeping children safe by providing child safety seats at no cost to families that meet income eligibility requirements to ensure that they are in the best child seat for their height and weight until they are at least 4'9. At 4'9, most children can safely wear a seat belt. Current South Dakota law states that any operator of any passenger vehicle transporting a child under five years of age on the streets and highways of this state shall properly secure the child in a child passenger restraint system, and that the operator of a motor vehicle must make sure that a passenger who is at least five and younger than 18 must be wearing a properly adjusted and fastened safety seat belt system. If the belts don't fit properly, the operator must find another safety belt system to secure the child (SD Law 32-37). This program distributes child seats to income eligible parents and children statewide, by assessing financial need. The communities listed may have local distribution partners. Provides 2 Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) for young women in nurturing, trauma-informed settings. The program offers an array of therapeutic services such as evidence-based trauma informed programming, special education schooling, individual therapy, group therapy, alcohol and drug treatment, and independent living skills. A variety of therapeutic techniques are used such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), neurofeedback, bio feedback, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

The United Methodist Church of Madison has a long-standing tradition of a free community meal every Monday night. This meal is open to all.

Provides mental health services and counseling for individuals, families, and couples. Issues such as depression, anxiety, panic, life transition and adjustment (such as career, mid-life, relationship changes, aging), coping with chronic illness, grief and loss, trauma, PTSD, job stress, issues relating to confidence, self esteem and empowerment, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioral issues, anger, and parenting. Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) is a supplemental food program that enables eligible households to obtain a more nutritious diet. Eligibility is determined by income, resources, and household size. Lost, stolen, or damaged EBT (SNAP) cards must call customer service to report the loss of your card. You will need to enter the card number. If you do not have the card, stay on the line for a second prompt and press 2. Reporting an EBT card as lost, stolen, or damaged will result in that card being declined.

Providing case management and family support for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Case managers help create a personalized plan, assist in choosing and coordinating with service providers, explain services and funding, and monitor services.

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an evidence-based family skills training program for high-risk and general population families. Parents and youth attend weekly SFP skills classes together, learning parenting skills and youth life and refusal skills. There are separate training classes for parents and youth the first hour, followed by a joint family practice session the second hour.

Early Head Start prenatal and children age birth to five, promotes healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women; helps enhance the development of very young children and promotes healthy family functioning; and provides early childhood education, health, nutrition, and mental health services. All services are provided in the home. Head Start Centers offer a comprehensive, no cost early learning and support program for children 3 - 5. Residents of Corson County are served through the Lemmon Head Start Center.

TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) is a temporary public assistance work program administered by the Department of Social Services in partnership with the Department of Labor and Regulation. It is designed to provide temporary assistance and build economic self-sufficiency for children and families. Eligibility and income guidelines are available by phone or by visiting the website.

Offering chronic disease management programs free of charge to all South Dakotans ages 18 and over. Conditions worked with include chronic disease, pain, diabetes, cancer, worksite wellness, physical activity, aging well and the Building Better Caregivers program.

Provides quality home health care to residents of the Sioux Empire, Vermillion, and Chamberlain communities. Services offered include care for heart conditions, complex wound care, diabetes education and assessment, disease and symptom management, education on a newly diagnosed medical condition, home health aide, home infusion therapy education, home safety education, medication education, occupational therapy, pain management, pediatric care, physical therapy, postsurgical care, skilled nursing, speech therapy, and rehabilitation therapy while recovering from an orthopedic condition or hospital stay. They are most appropriate for individuals recently discharged from the hospital and are not fully recovered such as after surgery or new diagnosis, individuals recently diagnosed with an illness and needing education, and individuals who have a chronic condition that needs frequent clinical assessment such as diabetes, kidney, stroke, heart or lung disease.

A public health nutrition program for income-eligible infants and children up to age 5, pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women. WIC provides nutrition education to help make healthy eating choices, breastfeeding education for expectant and new mothers looking to learn more about their infant nutrition options, referrals to connect families with quality medical care and other community services, and food benefits to help families purchase nutritious groceries at participating businesses statewide.

The Child Advocacy Center provides expert forensic interviews and medical examinations of children who are alleged victims of sexual and/or physical abuse or witnesses to violence. This program is housed with the Children's Home Society. The primary goal of the Child Advocacy Center is to reduce a child's trauma by eliminating repeated interviews and medical examinations by multiple investigative parties. The Center provides one coordinated interview and a physical exam, and provides superior evidence in child abuse investigations. The interview process may be observed on closed-circuit television by the referring social worker and law enforcement officer. The Child Advocacy Center also provides comprehensive training in Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) , Enough Abuse Campaign, Trauma Informed Care/Response, Mandatory Reporting/handling child abuse disclosures, and Multidisciplinary Child Abuse Investigations. Trainings are open to the entire state and are detailed to the requesting audience. Trainings, based on topics, are appropriate for caregivers, system professionals, and community members. CHS partners with the Center of Prevention of Child Maltreatment and state agencies to host, support, and provide trainer support in the ACEs and EnoughAbuse curriculums.

Provides the following services - Advocacy: Teaches people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. Independent Living Skills: Provides hands-on training in daily-living skills including cooking, budgeting, organizing, and more. Information and referral: Connects people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. Home Again South Dakota: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Program designed to improve quality of life activities for older adults. Trained volunteers will be matched with an older adult based on similar interests and schedule. Volunteer and older adult matches will spend four hours per month together going on outings, talking, pursuing hobbies, and other relationship-building activities.

These include Arboretum, Brandt's Pond Park, Devine Park, Farm Island Recreation Area, Griffin Park, Harrison Park, Hilger's Gulch Soccer Fields, La Framboise Island Nature area, LaBarge Park, Mickelson Pond, Oahe Softball Complex, Pierre Community Dog Park, Pierre Community Garden, Pierre Community Garden, PILC Soccer Complex, Hollister Field, Steamboat Park, and the Pierre Area Youth Skating Association. Amenities vary by each park and include playgrounds, picnic shelters, basketball court, sand volleyball, baseball field, softball field, track field, skate park, tennis court, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, disc golf course, and open skating.
