The county may be able to assist with the following: Medical Assistance: for indigent residents of Lawrence County who do not have health insurance or any other means of paying medical bills. Economic Assistance: for rent, utilities, and burials. Rent and utility assistance may be approved once in a 12 month period.

Services include semi-independent supervised apartments, group residence, independent home-based services-monitoring/support, educational services, service coordination, nursing services, alternative services, prevocational services, and integrated vocational services-job development.

Trained peer or professionally led groups for caregivers and others dealing with Alzheimer's disease. Many locations offer specialized groups for children, individuals with younger-onset and early-stage Alzheimer's, adult caregivers and others with specific needs.

TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) is a temporary public assistance work program administered by the Department of Social Services in partnership with the Department of Labor and Regulation. It is designed to provide temporary assistance and build economic self-sufficiency for children and families. Eligibility and income guidelines are available by phone or by visiting the website.

Support groups are typically held once a month for an hour virtually through Zoom or Google Meet. Email the group account and the support group facilitator will respond with information about the group and meeting link to join.

Provides pharmacy services including: immunizations and vaccines, prescription refills, transfers, and disposal sites; pet Medications, Medicare assistance.

Auditor services include: auditing of all financial records of the County; apportioning of taxes collected by the Treasurer to be disbursed to the schools, cities, and other special assessment entities; county accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgets, and tax levy; beer and liquor licensing; county liens; recorder of the minutes for the Board of County Commissioners; maintains all voter records; Notary Public services (some fees may apply); and administers all elections at the county level or above Welfare services include medical assistance, utility assistance (disconnect notice on heating bill required), and burial and funeral assistance.

Medical assistance programs include: ​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP): Coverage includes such things as doctor, hospital, prescription drugs, counseling, dental and glasses. Insurance for children up to age 19 at no cost to the family if the income is below certain income levels found on the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the family income is below 140%, the children may be eligible with or without private health insurance. If there is insurance, CHIP will pay the deductibles, co-insurance, and possibly some medical services not covered by the private insurance. ​Medicaid: Health care coverage for people who qualify. To be eligible for Medicaid, individuals must fall into a coverage group and meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility criteria. Provides help for older adults and people with disabilities.

Provides mental health therapy via telehealth services for individuals, couples, and adolescents. Areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and LGBTQ+ empowerment. Sessions are tailored to meet clients personal needs in a secure, confidential, and convenient virtual environment.

Offers crisis/sooner access mental health therapy sessions for patients experiencing increased mental health needs. Sessions often can be scheduled same-day or within 3 business days. Patient meets with mental health therapist for a 30-45 minute brief crisis session: processing stressors, support systems, coping mechanisms, providing brief therapeutic interventions. Goal is to meet patients in their time of need and assist with re-regulation of emotional state and assisting with ensuring ongoing follow-up care (if needed).

Offers an outdoor swimming pool and a park for the community to enjoy. Park facilities include picnic shelters, playground equipment, tennis courts, and a sand volleyball court. The City Pool features a large pool with a double slide and diving board, as well as a wadding pool with zero depth for younger children. Also offers swimming lessons during the summer.

Court approved divorce and custody mediator, parent coordinator, and custody evaluator. Individual, couples, and family counseling with expertise in blended families, marriage, family counseling, play therapy, trauma, child abuse, post traumatic stress (PTSD), and sexual assault.

Retail pharmacy and a medication disposal site. Services provided are immunizations, medical equipment/supplies, smoking cessation, and pain management. Also sells OTC medications.

Credit Review Services (We assist clients establish credit and improve credit scores.) Rental Education (Clients learn about tenant-landlord relationships, financial planning, credit restore & rescore.) Classes are offered by appointment either as an individual or in a group session (virtual, in person, or online course).

Veterans Stand Down event provides education and information about Veteran services and benefits to Veterans and their families in the West River region. The event also includes haircuts, clothing, hygiene products, employment services, legal assistance, housing referrals, eye screening/reading glasses, readjustment counseling. A free meal is served at all locations.

Must be behind (i.e.: if rent is due on the 5th, come for assistance after the 5th). Eviction notice is not required, however, there will be a form the landlord needs to complete the verify rent is past due.

ICAP Children and Family Services include the following: Half Day Services: Eligible children ages 3 - 5 will receive 3 1/2 hours of center-based preschool, 4 days per week, September - May. (limited locations) EHS Home Based Services: A home visitor meets with eligible women who are pregnant and/or families with children under the age of 3 once per week for 1 1/2 hours (at a regularly scheduled time). Group socialization meetings are held twice per month. Child Development Center: Madison and Sioux Falls (ages 4 weeks - 3 years) can receive early childhood services and childcare each day year-round at ICAP's childcare center.

A youth and community center serving the community of Allen. Meals are provided and children have a small library, games, and computer. The center hosts many classes and programs with learning opportunities for everything from Lakota art, music, building rockets, archery, hand games, horse camps, summer camps, and daily living skills. There is a community laundromat and food pantry open to the community.

Coteau des Prairies (CDP) Health Care System is a 25-bed, critical access acute care, community non-profit hospital serving approximately 21,000 residents in the Glacial Lakes Region in north east South Dakota, and west central Minnesota. CDP Health Care System owns and operates the attached certified rural health clinic in Sisseton, and the Rosholt Clinic in Rosholt, South Dakota.​ Services available at Coteau des Prairies Hospital and Clinic include In-patient and out-patient surgery, Swing Beds, Emergency Room, Cardiac Rehab, Laboratory Services, Radiology, Mammography, Therapy Services, Fitness Center, Medication disposal, Diabetic Education, Telehealth, Medical-Assisted Treatment (MAT), Nutrition Services, and Women's Health. The take-back site is available.

Gives out food and household necessities, including frozen meat, toilet paper, and paper towels.

Provides the food vouchers, prescription expense assistance (medicine only), vision expense assistance (eyeglasses and contacts), and personal care items (laundry soap, cleaning supplies, and hygiene items). Please note, prescription assistance is for those without insurance and it is for one time only! Personal care assistance is once in a calendar year.
