Items that are NOT accepted include: trash, regulated medical waste, sharps, syringes, thermometers, hazardous waste, aerosols, illicit drugs, or commercial waste.

The Home Essential Repair programs are efforts to serve low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain their homes and keep aging community members in their homes for as long as possible. This program focuses on exterior home repair services such as painting, minor exterior repairs, landscaping, weather stripping and exterior cleanup. There is also interior repair and renovation. The assistance this program offers is separate from the home build program. Qualified candidates must be able to pay and partner on the project, as they work alongside our professionals and other volunteers. Projects are completed using donated materials, and low-interest loans (if needed) so that a homeowner can live safely and independently their homes. The Home Preservation program is offered to assist homeowners who are physically unable to complete repairs on their own or may need assistance in funding repairs. This assistance allows homeowners the ability to stay in their home for further years and continue to build equity and pride in the home. The Home Preservation program has a target audience of adults aged 65 and older who require assistance to age in place.

Offering acute care to patients with the following symptoms: rashes/minor burns or scrapes/bumps; UTI (urinary tract infections); cough; cold; allergies; asthma; fever; ear and sinus pain; nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; sore throat; pink eye; and COVID-19 screening. Also offers primary care, chronic disease management, pre-surgical visits, medical weight management, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Offers appointments via telehealth.

4-week class for parents with children ages birth - 3 years old. Parents will learn about topics such as social-emotional growth, early brain development, temperament, and guidance. This class is usually an online, virtual, class.

Serves young people (Littles) from age 5 - young adulthood in one-to-one mentoring friendships with volunteer mentors (Bigs). Bigs and Littles hang out for 4 hours a month (scheduled on their own time) doing normal, everyday activities, like seeing a movie, doing homework, playing games, going out to eat, or just hanging out! Each match is supported by a dedicated Match Support Specialist who is always there to provide resources and support specific to the Little's age. With a Big in their life, Littles in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program are empowered to ignite their potential as they grow in their self-esteem, earn better grades, and develop a lifelong friendship with their Big.

There are many transportation grant opportunities available through River Cities Public Transit (RCPT). Call for more information. Maternal Child Healthcare provides Infant Sleep Safety services, immunizations, and pregnancy support services. Infant Sleep Safety services provide education on infant safe sleep practices and link families to resources when the purchase of a crib is a financial hardship. ​Immunizations services are available for children from birth through age 18 for all universally recommended vaccinations including influenza. The Vaccines for Children's Program provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, have insurance that does not cover vaccinations, are Medicaid eligible, or are Native American or Alaskan Native. For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown and Sisseton locations are also able to provide car seats for all ages at no cost.

Provides financial assistance for gas cards to medical appointments, medication co-pays, medical supplies, and food. Also provides advocacy and mentoring services. If an application is approved to receive assistance, payment is made directly to the medical clinic, pharmacy, or business that holds the bill.

A one-to-one mentoring program that supports Mitchell area families by providing youth with a caring adult who helps them navigate life. Volunteer mentors are matched with a mentee based on similar interests and personalities. BFLF has 3 different mentoring programs: ​Community-Based Mentoring: The volunteer mentor and their mentee meet in the evenings or weekends. Mentoring occurs for at least one hour per week for one year. ​School-Based Mentoring: The volunteer mentor and child meet at the child's elementary school during the school day for mentoring. Mentoring occurs for at least one hour per week for one school year. ​Mentor Mom: The Young Mom and Mentor Mom meet for mentoring at least one hour each week for a year.

TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) is a temporary public assistance work program administered by the Department of Social Services in partnership with the Department of Labor and Regulation. It is designed to provide temporary assistance and build economic self-sufficiency for children and families. Eligibility and income guidelines are available by phone or by visiting the website.

Home must be on a permanent foundation to qualify for program. Manufactured homes on rented lots are not eligible properties. Eligible properties must be owner occupied. The property must be located on a permanent foundation, and the occupant must own the land or have qualifying land lease.
