Assists with rent assistance for eviction notices, utility assistance for disconnect notices, hotel stays (does not provide a homeless shelter), gasoline or bus pass for stranded motorists or for medical reasons, minor car repairs, assistance after a disaster (i.e. house fire, flood, etc.), and prescription assistance for qualifying medications. The needs of the individual/family will be assessed, and certain documentation may be required (ex. driver's license). After business hours, The Salvation Army of Brookings County works with the Brookings County Sheriff or City Police to help individuals and families in the case of an emergency/immediate need.

If eligible, depending upon availability of funds, services may include: on the job training assistance, job search/placement assistance, financial support for education training and job placement, and supportive services such as, but not limited to: rental assistance and transportation costs, daycare expenses, tools, uniforms, and food.

Temporary emergency needs such as food, clothing, infant care, prescriptions, travel, lodging, and other miscellaneous services.

Caseworkers work with women who are going through an unplanned pregnancy. Support services are available to clients at no-cost. Includes: options counseling, evidence-based decision making, adoption planning, adoption parent selection, parenting preparedness program & courses, before & after birth support, mental health counseling, Medicaid & WIC applications, transportation assistance, case management, job application & resume writing, help with difficult family or partner communication, community & state resource connection, and referrals related to housing, substance use, and domestic violence.

The American Red Cross works in partnership with Military Aid Societies to provide financial assistance to eligible applicants. Assistance can include funds for emergency travel, burial of a loved one, emergency food and shelter, etc. The Aid Societies determine the financial assistance package that will be offered through a grant or a loan.

This association aids in the assistance with those who are in need of food, gas, and lodging. Additional assistance is offered for utilities and some rent.

Each conference seeks to serve the gaps in services in the communities they serve. Friends in need may be offered referral to other agencies, advocacy, or direct assistance: which may include utility bill and rent assistance payments, or clothing, food, and pharmacy to meet basic, immediate needs.

Thanksgiving Basket - package containing ingredients to make a meal along with a frozen turkey Volunteer opportunities Distributor of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is provided by USDA through the State of South Dakota. Only requirement - individual must fall under TEFAP guidelines

Purpose is to help residents of Sturgis / Newell who call in to request assistance, or need referrals to deal with life's challenges. The phones are not manned 24/7. For immediate assistance, dial 911 (emergencies) or 211 (for information and referral). Frequently takes calls about rent, utilities, and food.

The county is a resource of last resort, available only after all other resources have been exhausted. Any applicant who receives assistance will have a lien filed in their name for that amount and will be responsible for repayment of that lien to the County. Requests for assistance with: - Rent/Deposit Partial assistance with the current month's rent. Rental deposits are limited to the availability of grant funds. - Mortgage Partial assistance of one month's payment if applicant meets program qualifications. - Utilities Partial assistance with past due bills for water, electric, natural gas and propane usage. Additional utility charges and fees limited to the availability of grant funds. - Transportation Costs Assistance with bus passes or gasoline for verifiable medical appointments or new employment. - Medical Assistance may include emergency prescription medications, specialty physician services, hospitalizations, and insurance premiums. Services may require prior approval. - Burial or Cremation Pennington County residents without resources or family members to assist.

Clearinghouse for local food pantry, gas vouchers, utility (including water, electric, and gas bills with a disconnection notice), and rent help. Love Inc is not income based, rather they are need based. If Love, Inc is unable to help, clients will be referred to the appropriate agency. Programs include: Friday Backpack Program (healthy snacks for weekends), Adopt-A-Student Backpack Program (supplies and backpack for the school year), personal care pantry, winter coat drive, Helping Hands Baby Ministry, Love Inc's Clothing Closet (a thrift store for the Canton community), and budgeting classes.

Provides emergency assistance for those in either Minnehaha/Lincoln County with rent and deposits, Utility bills: Must have a disconnect notice for water, lights, or heating; Food and non-food items, Burial: Clients should begin by choosing a funeral home and meet with them prior to applying for assistance through Minnehaha County. Also provides transportation assistance, dental care, medical care (hospitalization) and Medications. Minnehaha County residents can also receive assistance with Shelter, Gasoline or bus ticket for transients/nonresidents stranded here and needing to get home. Out of town travel assistance is not offered to MC residents. Identification and or birth certificate (if needed for the purposes of obtaining employment/housing). The majority of assistance provided is in the form of a no-interest loan for which a lien is created. The client does not receive any bill from County but is expected to repay the debt, starting in a time frame created by the caseworker. Applicants can choose to walk-in to the office or receive a phone call to complete an interview. Those applying for transportation, medications or ID/BC assistance should come into the office to apply.

Responsible for protecting and serving the citizens of Deadwood. Gasoline assistance vouchers available through funding from local churches. Please call for eligibility requirements and application information. Also, provides food and emergency housing vouchers. Community Service Officers are responsible for enforcement of various issues such as snow/ice removal.

The Contact Center helps residents of Yankton County with the following: A food pantry Utility assistance, including past due and disconnect bills for water, lights, and heating Gasoline Partial rent Representative payee system Emergency medication assistance - Children's backpacks available. Typically available in August. 2024: Collaboration with United Way. August 15, 2024 at Contact Center 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Students must be enrolled in the Yankton School District. Deadline to register for a backpack is August 9, 2024. Contact Center does not help with any kind of deposit (rent, utility, etc).

Economic Assistance: Emergency assistance program. Eligibility is based on state statute and county guidelines. The amount of assistance granted is established in the County Guidelines and the Federal Poverty Level Guidelines. For all assistance granted, state statute requires that a lien is placed against the individual. Economic assistance is not an on-going program, but is designed to address the immediate need. Due to the attachment of a lien, the individual is encouraged to exhaust all other resources prior to making application with the county. The county will assist in making appropriate referrals and can act as an advocate on the individual's behalf. - Types of assistance provided for qualified applicants: - Rent Assistance Does not help with 1st month's rent or a rental deposit. Assistance is only for those individuals who have received a sheriff served 3-day eviction notice. Having the notice is required. Also, resident must have live in Davison County for at least 60 days. Utilities (disconnect notice required) Emergency Transportation (gas voucher or bus ticket) Emergency Shelter (one night hotel stay) Medical Assistance The county is a resource of last resort and requires that all other resources be exhausted first. Medical assistance is determined by a formula established in state statute. The individual's availability and affordability of health care coverage will be one determining factor of eligibility. All medical services must meet the criteria of medical necessity set by state statue. The county works directly with medical providers and past and current employers in assessing eligibility. If the county approves financial assistance, a repayment plan will be established. - Types of assistance provided: Medication Hospital Funeral Assistance Davison County Welfare provides financial assistance for funeral services and burials for qualified individuals.

Primarily provides food to those in need. Also provides the following when available - gas cards, clothing, diapers, personal hygiene items, and cleaning supplies.

Helping people identify long term situations that lead to assistance requests and to walk along side them as they bridge out of those situations. Provides assistance for those in the Whitewood area only (cannot assist individuals from Spearfish or other areas).  Services provided might include utility payments on a case by case basis, clothing, food, gas, financial education, training and education assistance, and micro-loans (0% interest) for rent deposit; amount must be repaid.
