A joint effort of the Scottish Rite Foundation of South Dakota and the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at USD with support from the Sioux Empire United Way. The clinic's purpose is to provide: Evaluation, treatment, and outreach services for children birth to 21 years in the Sioux Falls area with speech, language, and literacy deficits A training site for graduate students in Speech Language/Pathology. Examples of disorders seen include children who are late talking, who have articulation disorders, language disorders, stuttering difficulties, hearing losses, etc. The clinic also serves as a diagnostic center for written language / dyslexia. There is a minimal fee for services; no one is denied due to an inability to pay. Referrals are taken from parents, professionals, and family members.

Emphasis is placed on high quality services that are flexible, creative, innovative and orientated toward practical and useful life skills. Services include semi-independent supervised apartments, group residence, independent home-based services-monitoring/support, educational services, service coordination, nursing services, alternative services, prevocational services, and integrated vocational services-job development.

Providing the following services: - ADVOCACY Teaching people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. - INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS Providing hands-on training in daily-living skills (cooking, budgeting, organizing and more). - INFORMATION AND REFERRAL Connecting people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. - PEER COUNSELING Providing opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. - TRANSITION Facilitating the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. - COMMUNITY LIVING SERVICES Assisting individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. - HOME MODIFICATION ADAPTIVE DEVICES Providing home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. - TELECOMMUNICATION ADAPTIVE DEVICES Providing adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. - AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT Serving as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. - ASSISTIVE DAILY LIVING SERVICES Providing services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. - MONEY FOLLOWS THE PERSON - Providing options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Evaluations for dyslexia are provided for students up to age 21 whose parents and or educators are concerned regarding their child's ability to read, spell, and write. Dyslexia evaluations are not provided for those children whose learning difficulty is solely because of low cognition, attention problems, emotional/behavioral problems, autism, or hearing or vision impairment.

Early Intervention Program that serves children from birth - 36 months with developmental delays or disabilities and their families. To schedule a developmental screen, contact the local service coordinator.

Staff also deliver workshops in-person for groups upon request. Willing to work with parents and professionals to develop and deliver training based on the needs of the group. Workshops/presentations are delivered at no cost to parents. A nominal fee structure is in place for delivery to professional groups.

Made up of 25 members appointed by the Governor. The Council receives federal dollars that it then grants to other community agencies for projects benefiting people with developmental disabilities (DD), projects include funding for individuals with DD and their family members to attend workshops and conferences, Partners in Policy-Making, Youth Leadership Forum, SD Advocates for Change, and Information and Referrals.

Focuses on empowering people with disabilities to live, work, and participate fully in their communities. Provides training, technical assistance, education, research, and services to promote best practices and build statewide and local community capacity. The team builds meaningful relationships with individuals with disabilities, their families, and the people they interact and work with on a day-to-day basis. Advocates for increased self-determination, independence, productivity, and a healthy and satisfying quality of life for self-advocates and the community at large. Provides developmental screenings, parent education, and early intervention services at no cost for families who have children from birth up to age 3. This program is designed to help children whom have difficulty learning, growing, or behaving like other children in their age group or have a medical condition. ​The Birth to Three Program contributes to the success of children with developmental delays and their families by providing dynamic, individualized early intervention services and supports by building on family strengths through every day routines and learning experiences.

There are many opportunities for people to participate in and explore a variety of meaningful activities throughout their day. They do this in many ways, and all services are driven by each person's own goals, dreams and needs. Some areas of focus are: - Accessing their community - This may include volunteering or attending activities and events in the community. - Recreational and leisure - Swimming, bowling, spending time at local parks, movies, and eating out are a few examples. - Meaningful relationships - People are encouraged to keep in touch with loved ones whether this is writing cards or emails, sending pictures, or making arrangements for visits. - Maintaining and learning new skills - People may need continued training so they can be as independent as possible. Staff support people in learning sign language and using adaptive communication systems. Other examples of trainings offered are cooking classes, self help and social skills, computer classes and money management. - Self advocacy - People are provided training in many areas of safety and welfare. Some topics include stranger danger, learning how to protect themselves from Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation, and learning what to do for severe weather or fire. People also learn what to expect at doctor's appointments to help them overcome anxiety and fears.

An early childhood/parental parent engagement program for American Indian families in BIE-funded schools. Program services integrate language and culture, and provide resources and support for families with children from prenatal to grade 3. Goals of the program include supporting parents/primary caregivers as their child's first and most influential teacher, to increase family literacy, to strengthen family-school-community connections, services for the early identification of children with special needs, parent engagement, whether it be full-time, part-time, or flex-time status, and to promote lifelong learning. Family and Child Education Program (FACE) offers school readiness home-based program, assessments, center-based setting, meals and transportation provided for center-based families, parenting skills, adult education / GED completion, and career planning, college preparation, job readiness.

The Center for Disabilities LEND Clinic works to improve the health of infants and children with neurodevelopmental and related disabilities. The Center for Disabilities helps families who are interested in learning how to support their child's strengths and address their weaknesses and health care needs. The South Dakota LEND Developmental Clinic provides a free interdisciplinary evaluation to children who are between six months and six years old who may have a developmental concern. The evaluation is offered once a month at the USD Sanford School of Medicine Health Science Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Provides emotional support, share valuable insights, and connect individuals with additional resources. The primary focus is to empower and assist families in their journey, fostering a positive and inclusive experience. Families First uses the proven Parents as Teachers Model to increase parent knowledge of early childhood development, grow relationships through fun get-togethers, improve early detection of developmental delays and health issues, and increase children's school readiness and success.

Early Head Start prenatal and children age birth to five, promotes healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women; helps enhance the development of very young children and promotes healthy family functioning; and provides early childhood education, health, nutrition, and mental health services. All services are provided in the home. Head Start Centers offer a comprehensive, no cost early learning and support program for children 3 - 5. Residents of Corson County are served through the Lemmon Head Start Center.

Family Enrichment assists families by: - Providing developmental screenings for children birth to five, after which the children and families receive formula, diapers, books and other items - Collaborating with other programs to secure added incentives for the children and families, including formula and diapers that may be given out to children and families as needed - Possibly providing local transportation for WIC

Child's Voice is a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center that provides medical evaluations for children who may be victims of abuse and neglect. The primary goal of all children's advocacy centers is to ensure that children disclosing abuse are not further victimized by the intervention systems designed to protect them. Children are referred to Child's Voice by law enforcement, Child Protective Services and medical professionals. Child's Voice uses a multidisciplinary team approach to evaluate children with suspected child abuse and neglect. This means that law enforcement, child protection, medical professionals, counselors, state's attorneys and victim advocates all work together to coordinate an effective response for the child and their family. Child's Voice provides forensic interviews, medical exams, family consultations, and advocacy.

Program provides assessments 24-hours a day for mental health problems to determine an appropriate level of care.

ICAP Children and Family Services include the following: Extended Day and Part Day Head Start (ages 3-5) for low-income children, including children with special needs. Early Head Start home based (pregnancy to age 3) offers weekly home visits with focused information on parenting and parent/child activities.
