Provides the following financial assistance: Economic Assistance: Provides emergency assistance to those in need. The amount of assistance granted is established in the County Guidelines and the Federal Poverty Level Guidelines. Economic assistance is not an on-going program, but is designed to address the immediate need. For all assistance granted, state statute requires that a lien is placed against the individual. Due to the attachment of a lien, the individual is encouraged to exhaust all other resources prior to making application with the county. The county will assist in making appropriate referrals and can act as an advocate on the individual's behalf. Types of assistance include: utility assistance (disconnect notice required), emergency transportation (gas voucher or but ticket), emergency shelter (one night hotel stay), and rent assistance (does not help with first months rent or rental deposit). Rent assistance is only for those individuals who have received a sheriff served 3-day eviction notice. Having the notice is required. Also, resident must have live in Davison County for at least 60 days. Medical Assistance: The county is a resource of last resort and requires that all other resources be exhausted first. Medical assistance is determined by a formula established in state statute. The individual's availability and affordability of health care coverage will be one determining factor of eligibility. All medical services must meet the criteria of medical necessity set by state statue. The county works directly with medical providers and past and current employers in assessing eligibility. The county must approve non-emergency medical procedures prior to the services being performed. The county investigates any potential third-party payee. If the county approves financial assistance, a repayment plan will be established. Types of assistance provided: medication assistance and hospital bill assistance. Funeral Assistance: Davison County Welfare provides financial assistance for funeral services and burials for qualified individuals.

Distribution day is Saturday, August 10, 2024. To get an application, go to SA office. People on SNAP automatically qualify. People who qualify receive a card that they need to bring that to the distribution date. Students are also given a brand new pair of shoes.

Assists with rent assistance for eviction notices, utility assistance for disconnect notices, hotel stays (does not provide a homeless shelter), gasoline or bus pass for stranded motorists or for medical reasons, minor car repairs, assistance after a disaster (i.e. house fire, flood, etc.), and prescription assistance for qualifying medications. The needs of the individual/family will be assessed, and certain documentation may be required (ex. driver's license). After business hours, The Salvation Army of Brookings County works with the Brookings County Sheriff or City Police to help individuals and families in the case of an emergency/immediate need.

Businesses apply for beer and liquor licenses with the auditor. The auditor also figures real estate and mobile home taxes and handles county bid lettings. This office oversees one time, last resort/emergency assistance for residents who need help with burial expenses, medical indigent claims, prescription payment assistance and rent or utility payment assistance (to prevent eviction or disconnection). The Auditor and Treasurer work in conjunction to pay county bills. Notary Public services available. Some fees may apply.

Services provided include: HIV Prevention, women's health, All Women Count, school / sport / commercial driver license (CDL) physicals, child and infant care, adult care, immunizations, comprehensive diabetes care including educational classes and foot care, diabetes partners program, case management, chronic disease management, medication assisted therapy, treatment needs assessments, and patient navigators. Transportation is available for current patients if needed.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul serves the community of Sioux Falls with various programs including outreach services providing financial and material support to those in need for necessities such as rent, utilities, food, shelter, clothing and more. Provides limited emergency financial assistance as a last resort for those considered indigent and are residents of Brookings County. The office may assist with rent, utilities, prescription medications, emergency medical expenses, county burials and funerals, and vision referrals. Must reside in Brookings County to be eligible for services. Assistance is not free, any assistance granted will be inputted as a lien by Brookings County and will be required to pay back.

COVID Testing Option: ​Oyate Health Center Urgent Care 3200 Canyon Lake Drive 7:00am - 7:00pm (MT), 7 days a week Closed on Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Oyate Health Center provides primary medical care, outpatient clinic, and urgent care. Additional outpatient services that are provided on site include optometry, pharmacy (Prescription Drug Take Back Site, blue drop-box in pharmacy), laboratory, radiology, dental, physical therapy, podiatry, and social services. Oyate Health Center has 2 sweat lodges that are by sign in only. Call for details. Oyate Health Center provides direct health services to Native Americans and also provide contract health care services and referrals to those that are eligible within IHS requirements. This means that if a patient is enrolled in a federally recognized tribe or can prove lineage of descent of an enrolled tribal member; the patient may receive direct care services at Oyate Health Center. Prescription Assistance - Any Native American enrolled in a federally recognized tribe can receive prescription expense assistance at any I.H.S. facility.
