Start Making It Livable for Everyone (SMILE) classes for separating and divorcing parents with children under the age of 18, designed to: inform parents how to better understand the effects of divorce; assist parents to understand the needs of their children; help parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so their children can recover and feel good about themselves; inform parents how to prevent destructive game playing that is common among divorce; help parents gain problem solving skills; and let parents know they are not alone. Other programs include: Lakota Circles of Hope, Disaster Relief, and Uplifting Parents.

Available to individuals or couples experiencing an unplanned pregnancy so that abortion is not needed because of financial reasons. Mother Teresa helps with expenses that community/county agencies do not provide assistance with such as rent, utilities, car payments, etc. An application is required and documentation of bills, insurance, and other assistance must be included. Bright Start pairs first time pregnant women with a personal nurse. The nurse assists the family in meeting goals of improved pregnancy outcomes, improved child health and development, and life, school and work goals. Families may stay enrolled until their child turns two years old. Visits are arranged on a schedule the mother/family chooses.

Birthparent Counseling Program provides options counseling to assist birth parents who are in an unintended/crisis pregnancy in reaching decisions regarding their futures and the future of the child. Services to birth parents are free of charge. Services are available anywhere in South Dakota, LSS can travel to meet with birth parents. ​Parenting and adoption options are explored: If parenting is the decision, the counselor will assist in setting up community resources. If adoption is the decision, the birth parent can choose from adoptive parent profiles, including pictures and information about the family. The birthparent also can choose what degree of openness they want in the adoption plan. LSS does provide both open and closed/confidential adoption. The purpose of this program is to assist birthparents in reaching a permanent plan for themselves and their child. Adoption Program provides options for those desiring to pursue having a family, including Infant Domestic Program and International Adoption Program. Training and Home Study Services are provided prior to placement of a child.

Pre-Abortion Screenings: Option 1 does not perform or refer for abortions. A pre-abortion screening includes a pregnancy test, possible ultrasound and STD test, all at no cost. The ultrasound helps determine if an abortion or abortion pills are needed, as approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies end on their own. An STD test is recommended before an abortion due to the risk of pelvic infection. Pregnancy Test & Ultrasound Appointments: Option 1 provides a medical grade urine pregnancy test and a possible ultrasound, all at no cost.
