Serving clients 12 years of age and older on the topics of abuse, attention deficit / hyperactive disorder (ADD/ADHD), adoption, alcohol abuse, Asperger's syndrome, autism, behavioral issues, bipolar disorder, borderline personality, chronic impulsivity, codependency, coping skills, divorce, domestic abuse, domestic violence, dual diagnosis, eating disorders, family conflict, grief, infertility, infidelity, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), oppositional defiance (ODD), parenting, pregnancy, prenatal and postpartum, self-esteem, self-harming, sexual addiction, insomnia, weight loss, and women's issues. Treatment approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems therapy, marital therapy, interpersonal therapy, mindfulness based, motivational interviewing, and solution focused brief counseling. Provides play therapy for children with behavior challenges, counseling for women looking for balance and happiness in life and consultation for child care programs to improve the quality of their programs and promote positive behaviors of the children in their care. Birthparent Counseling Program provides: - Options counseling to assist birth parents who are in an unintended/crisis pregnancy in reaching decisions regarding their futures and the future of the child - Services to birth parents are free of charge - Services are available anywhere in South Dakota, LSS can travel to meet with birth parents. - Parenting and adoption options are explored - If parenting is the decision, the counselor will assist in setting up community resources. - If adoption is the decision, the birth parent can choose from adoptive parent profiles, including pictures and information about the family. - The birthparent also can choose what degree of openness they want in the adoption plan. LSS does provide both open and closed/confidential adoption. - The purpose of this program is to assist birthparents in reaching a permanent plan for themselves and their child. Adoption Program provides: - Options for couples experiencing infertility to pursue having a family, including: - Infant Domestic Program - International Adoption Program - Training and Home Study Services are provided prior to placement of a child

Caseworkers work with women who are going through an unplanned pregnancy. Support services are available to clients at no-cost. Includes: options counseling, evidence-based decision making, adoption planning, adoption parent selection, parenting preparedness program & courses, before & after birth support, mental health counseling, Medicaid & WIC applications, transportation assistance, case management, job application & resume writing, help with difficult family or partner communication, community & state resource connection, and referrals related to housing, substance use, and domestic violence.

Services include: - Outpatient therapy providing individual (prenatal to geriatric), couple/marriage, and family counseling on topics including, but not limited to: life's major transitions, trauma, grief, depression and anxiety, medical adjustments and more. - School-Based outpatient therapy providing individual, family and parent/teacher consultations within the Brookings Public and Brookings County School Districts. - Group-based therapy providing psycho-education related to the needs of therapists caseloads to help increase supportive and therapeutic environments and skills. - Specialized trauma and healing-informed services.

Counseling Services provides individual, marital, and family counseling with a focus on addiction recovery (including evaluations), abuse, healthy relationships, unplanned pregnancy, adoption, and birth parents. Youth prevention program focuses on issues of addiction, violence, promiscuity, and suicide. Variety of educational workshops available. - CSS is offering free counseling services to ranchers and producers facing stressful times. Stress comes out in different ways: family conflict; persistent worry; depression; irritability; relying on substance to manage. Adoption services offers domestic and international adoption services, including, but not limited to: support for individuals coping with the many emotions and decisions that come from choosing adoption; providing birth parents have the opportunity to interview and select the adoptive family; working under the provisions of Baby Moses law; and providing home studies and training for potential foster parents/homes Pregnancy Counseling supports mothers as they experience the many emotions and decision that come with facing an unplanned pregnancy and help find the options that will work the best. Assistance with medical costs associated with pregnancy may be available. Some infant items are also available (layettes, infant clothing, etc.). Caring and licensed social workers are available to travel and meet mothers involved in a crisis situation. Crisis pregnancy meeting sites will be kept confidential and be convenient for the mother. Start Making It Livable for Everyone (SMILE) classes for separating and divorcing parents with children under the age of 18, designed to: inform parents how to better understand the effects of divorce; assist parents to understand the needs of their children; help parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so their children can recover and feel good about themselves; inform parents how to prevent destructive game playing that is common among divorce; help parents gain problem solving skills; and let parents know they are not alone. Other programs include: Lakota Circles of Hope, Disaster Relief, and Uplifting Parents.

Providing free, confidential pregnancy counseling, options counseling, and adoption services to help with decision making across the state of South Dakota. Pregnancy counseling assists in looking at priorities by helping assess the physical, emotional and financial aspects of both parenting and making an adoption plan. Services are also available via Zoom or phone if necessary.
