Caseworkers work with women who are going through an unplanned pregnancy. Support services are available to clients at no-cost. Includes: options counseling, evidence-based decision making, adoption planning, adoption parent selection, parenting preparedness program & courses, before & after birth support, mental health counseling, Medicaid & WIC applications, transportation assistance, case management, job application & resume writing, help with difficult family or partner communication, community & state resource connection, and referrals related to housing, substance use, and domestic violence.

Birthparent Counseling Program provides: - Options counseling to assist birth parents who are in an unintended/crisis pregnancy in reaching decisions regarding their futures and the future of the child - Services to birth parents are free of charge - Services are available anywhere in South Dakota, LSS can travel to meet with birth parents. - Parenting and adoption options are explored - If parenting is the decision, the counselor will assist in setting up community resources. - If adoption is the decision, the birth parent can choose from adoptive parent profiles, including pictures and information about the family. - The birthparent also can choose what degree of openness they want in the adoption plan. LSS does provide both open and closed/confidential adoption. - The purpose of this program is to assist birthparents in reaching a permanent plan for themselves and their child. Adoption Program provides: - Options for couples experiencing infertility to pursue having a family, including: - Infant Domestic Program - International Adoption Program - Training and Home Study Services are provided prior to placement of a child
