Common Sense Parenting is a product of years of research compiled by Girls and Boys Town, Nebraska. This program is a step-by-step guide for raising responsible children and building strong, happy families. Parents will learn how to reduce family stress, support success in school, enrich parent/child relationships, reduce problem behavior, and diminish yelling and fighting. It teaches skills to help parents build better families. Topics focus on positive/negative consequences, staying calm, teaching self control, effective praise, and parents as teachers. Classes are offered about every 6 weeks. Both at Children's Home Shelter for Family Safety and virtually.
6 week, 12-hour program of instruction, videos, and role play that helps parents develop and practice skills to: give clear message to their children, effectively use praise; change behavior through the use of consequences; prevent and correct negative behaviors; and help children learn self-control techniques.
The WPRC seeks to divert or delay those we serve from substance use and other high-risk behaviors to promote choices/behaviors resulting in lifelong mind and body wellness. The WPRC primarily focuses prevention support services to stakeholders in South Dakota's 22 westernmost counties, but often serves an even broader audience. The WPRC's services include providing education, technical assistance, training and other support to prevention service providers, youth, parents, educators, community groups, social service providers, health/wellness agencies, chemical dependency service providers, law enforcement and other community wellness stakeholders. WPRC staff can provide community education and information on a broad range of prevention topics. These topics include: - Individual drugs (alcohol, nicotine, vaping, marijuana, methamphetamine, fentanyl, etc.) - Trends in drug use - Over the counter drug misuse - The science of chemical dependence (brain and body) - Risky behavior marketing - 988/211 Helpline usage The WPRC maintains a traditional library of books and other media relating to prevention, health and wellness. Responsive parenting classes are designed for parents of children 3 years and younger. The free "Understanding Me Up to Age 3" 4-week series focuses on development and learning in the early years, understanding a child's temperament, and balancing the stress and joy of parenting.

An early childhood/parental parent engagement program for American Indian families in BIE-funded schools. Program services integrate language and culture, and provide resources and support for families with children from prenatal to grade 3. Goals of the program include supporting parents/primary caregivers as their child's first and most influential teacher, to increase family literacy, to strengthen family-school-community connections, services for the early identification of children with special needs, parent engagement, whether it be full-time, part-time, or flex-time status, and to promote lifelong learning. Family and Child Education Program (FACE) offers school readiness home-based program, assessments, center-based setting, meals and transportation provided for center-based families, parenting skills, adult education / GED completion, and career planning, college preparation, job readiness.

The Discover Your Child at Home Program (DYC) is a family training program that takes place where the child feels most comfortable, in their own home. The DYC staff meets with parents and together determining areas to focus on. The DYC staff then provides parents educational activities that promote child development, while offering them ideas and support regarding various situations and behaviors. This program strives to provide a positive and educational foundation for children ages 0 to 6 years old. Some topics addressed Child Friendly Environments, Daily Routines - Feeding, Dressing, Behavioral Issues, Potty Training, Setting Limits, Language and Communication Skills, Relationship Development, and Developmentally Appropriate Environments.

Family Visitation Center (FVC) is available to parents and their children as a resource for families seeking a wide range of services in the process of custody and visitation litigation. The safety and comfort of the child is of utmost importance. Common Sense Parenting Class: Classes are interactive and include videotaped examples to watch, rather than a lecture format. In order to receive a certificate for class attendance, all participants must attend the first session, and be present for five out of six classes. For more information, or to register please call. Topics cover a wide range of mental health issues from alcoholism and the family to stress management. SMILE: Education program for separating and divorcing parents with children under the age of 18, designed to inform parents how to better understand the effects of divorce; assist parents to understand the needs of their children; help parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so their children can recover and feel good about themselves; inform parents how to prevent destructive game playing that is common among divorce; help parents gain problem solving skills.
