Youth & Family Services (YFS) Rapid City Head Start is a federally funded, no-cost, parent-focused education program that serves low-income children, ages 4 weeks-5 years, and their families. Program goals include increasing social skills and school readiness for young children while increasing the self-sufficiency for families. YFS Rapid City Head Start gives priority to families who meet the household income guidelines or have children with disabilities. Income guidelines are established by the federal government each year. All services are free of charge for participants who qualify. Head Start® is a registered trademark of HHS.

Also offers behavioral health services: medication management, counseling, case management, integrated care, addiction services, and Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT).

Provides Public Health Nursing and Maternal Child Healthcare Services through various programs. General public health services include professional nursing and nutrition information and guidance on health, safety, and nutrition for individuals, families, and communities. Services such as influenza vaccinations and screenings for blood pressure, hearing, vision, and hemoglobin are available at a fee. Maternal Child Healthcare provides Infant Sleep Safety services, immunizations, and pregnancy support services. Infant Sleep Safety services provide education on infant safe sleep practices and link families to resources when the purchase of a crib is a financial hardship. ​Immunizations services are available for children from birth through age 18 for all universally recommended vaccinations including influenza. The Vaccines for Children's Program provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, have insurance that does not cover vaccinations, are Medicaid eligible, or are Native American or Alaskan Native. For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown and Sisseton locations are also able to provide car seats for all ages at no cost.

Free and confidential pregnancy tests, emotional support, maternity and baby clothing, diapers size 1-3, and community resource referrals.

18-bed critical access hospital provides 24-hour emergency service, inpatient and outpatient care, ambulance service, home health care, laboratory services, physical therapy, and medication disposal.

Provided to prevent shut-off of current residence utilities only (not for deposits or previous addresses). Assistance is for a one-time emergency situation, not on a yearly basis. Client must have tried seeking assistance from Minnehaha or Lincoln County Human Services prior to caseworker visit. The maximum assistance provided is capped at $250.00. The client must provide: Notice of action from Minnehaha County or Lincoln County disconnection notice proof of income includes the following: Wages, self-employment, Child Support, Alimony, Social Security, SSI, SSI State Supplement, BIA GA, TANF-Food Stamps, Unemployment, Worker's Compensation, Section 8, Veteran's Benefits, Retirement, Pensions, Annuities, Dividends, Rental Income, Tribal Lease, Per Capita Income, Prizes, Money from Family or Friends, and/ or all other sources of income for all persons living in the home. Picture ID for all adults in the household Social Security numbers for everyone in the household Name and date of birth for all children in the household

Recycles donated clothing, furniture, household goods, books, and other items by offering them for purchase. Proceeds benefit the community by offering individuals with barriers work training and employment opportunities.

Provides mental health and addictions assessments, early intervention, intensive outpatient treatment, and aftercare services for individuals, couples, and families. Providers treatment for concerns including addiction, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, adjustment, abuse, spiritual development, emotional management, stress management, family issues, grief, trauma, personality disorders, and relational issues. Offers in person services and telehealth services via Zoom. Services can also be provided via telephone. Clients are encouraged to check with insurance providers regarding coverage.

Programs include the following: Furnace Replacement - Replaced if furnace is unsafe, costs more than 50% of new furnace to repair, is outdated, or is not cost efficient. Lead Hazard Identification - E.P.A. certified staff that will refer to local resources. Weatherization - For homes or mobile homes includes, but is not limited to, windows, doors, sealing vents, etc.

An event that includes free gently used clothing, household items, bedding, and more. Also included are STD Testing and haircuts and showers on a first come, first serve basis. There will be other social service agencies present to assist with other resources for participants as well.  ​Everyone is welcome to shop. No income requirements.

Certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to treat complex trauma, abuse, neglect, and other disorders. Services offered include individual counseling, divorce counseling, grief/bereavement counseling, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), terminal illness counseling, child abuse counseling, child abuse survivor counseling for adults, couples counseling, mental health screening, trauma informed therapy, faith based counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), adolescent/youth counseling, parent counseling, and hoarding counseling. Offers services in person and via telehealth.

Arrangements can be made for the Backpacks (pre-packed food sacks) to be picked up at the child's school (Headstart - High school), or food can be packed at Tanager Take Out (located at the Community Connection Center).
