Provides emergency assistance for those in either Minnehaha/Lincoln County with rent and deposits, Utility bills: Must have a disconnect notice for water, lights, or heating; Food and non-food items, Burial: Clients should begin by choosing a funeral home and meet with them prior to applying for assistance through Minnehaha County. Also provides transportation assistance, dental care, medical care (hospitalization) and Medications. Minnehaha County residents can also receive assistance with Shelter, Gasoline or bus ticket for transients/nonresidents stranded here and needing to get home. Out of town travel assistance is not offered to MC residents. Identification and or birth certificate (if needed for the purposes of obtaining employment/housing). The majority of assistance provided is in the form of a no-interest loan for which a lien is created. The client does not receive any bill from County but is expected to repay the debt, starting in a time frame created by the caseworker. Applicants can choose to walk-in to the office or receive a phone call to complete an interview. Those applying for transportation, medications or ID/BC assistance should come into the office to apply.

Rural Office of Community Services, Inc offers the following basic needs services: - Emergency Rental Assistance Must be behind (i.e.: if rent is due on the 5th, come for assistance after the 5th). Eviction notice is not required, however, there will be a form the landlord needs to complete the verify rent is past due. - Emergency Utility Assistance Must be behind AND have disconnection notice. Responsible to keep, audit and maintain all accounting records for Brown County as set forth in the accounting manual prescribed by the Auditor-General. This includes the following: Auditing claims & preparing the warrants for all disbursements, processing payroll, preparing the annual budget, establishing tax levies for all taxing entities, apportions the taxes collected by the County Treasurer, verification of bank account balances, prepare the annual financial reports, and keeping an inventory of county property. Serves as the clerk of the County Commission and records and preserves the records of the Commission proceedings including the Board of Equalization hearings. The Auditor is also responsible for preparing the agenda for the Commission meetings and for publishing the legal notices for the Commission including but not limited to meeting minutes, public hearing notices for Bids; Alcohol & Malt Beverage License applications; Ordinances; Lottery Permits and Tax Deed Sales. At the close of the month lists all cash and cash items held by the County Treasurer and verify the balances in the depositories and report this to the Board of Commissioners. Offers the following emergency assistance as a very last resort (individuals must utilize all other local organizations before reaching out to Welfare): Economic Assistance - Rent/Utility shut offs (disconnects) County does not help with deposits, of any kind, reconnect fees or previous/past bills. One-time assistance allowed in a 12 month period for economic assistance. Assistance must be repaid, and failure to repay disqualifies from further assistance. Medical Assistance is only for emergency hospitalizations for which the hospital provided the County a notice of hospitalization. Any other hospital or medical bills must be approved before the procedure is undertaken. Failure to sign up for health care insurance if that option is available and affordable will disqualify someone from assistance. No assistance with prescriptions, medical equipment or therapy(s). Burial All assistance received becomes a poor relief lien and is to be paid back to the county.

Guides soldiers and their families to the help they need through a one-stop call center for veterans. The Sea of Goodwill is one place that will have a list of all the various official and unofficial support services available to help veterans. This program helps veterans find assistance in the areas of; employment, housing, financial assistance, and mental and physical health needs. Available 24 hours per day, the Watertown Police Department 911 Center serves as the call center for the Sea of Goodwill.

For immediate assistance, dial 911 (emergencies) or 211 (for information and referral). Frequently takes calls about rent, utilities, and food.

ICAP Housing Services provides the following programs: Rapid Rehousing and Homeless Prevention Programs: aims to help two specific groups - persons who are at great risk of homelessness and those who have become homeless. Services that can be provided include case management, security deposit and rent assistance. These services are aimed at helping participants to retain their housing, therefore avoiding homelessness, or to re-enter appropriate permanent housing as quickly as possible. Housing Repair / Rehabilitation: Provides a zero-interest, five-year decreasing balance loan for eligible homeowners to be used for accessibility modifications for persons with disabilities, in addition to making necessary repairs for health, safety and code compliance. Self-Help Housing Rehabilitation: Eligible participants will work with program staff to identify their specific needs and to create a work plan. The Program Coordinator will find the best funding sources available to the homeowners and assist them throughout the process. Weatherization and Furnace Replacement Program: Aimed at making housing for low-income persons more energy-efficient and less costly for the residents. The residence is audited and a list of needs is developed. The program provides the materials and pays contractors for the labor to weatherize the home (caulk cracks, insulate, weather-strip, fix windows, etc.). Furnaces can be repaired or replaced, if not repairable, through the program. In addition, some inefficient/high-cost non-operating appliances (range / refrigerator / water heater) can also be replaced in certain circumstances. Homeless Rent and Deposit: Helping homeless households get into housing. Must provide steady and reliable source of income. Applicant must agree to case management services.

Helps residents of Yankton County with the following: food pantry, utility assistance, including past due and disconnect bills for water, lights, and heating, gasoline, partial rent, representative payee system, and emergency medication assistance. Contact Center does not help with any kind of deposit (rent, utility, etc.)

Love Inc is not income based, rather they are need based. If Love, Inc is unable to help, clients will be referred to the appropriate agency. Programs include: Friday Backpack Program (healthy snacks for weekends), Adopt-A-Student Backpack Program (supplies and backpack for the school year), personal care pantry, winter coat drive, Helping Hands Baby Ministry, Love Inc's Clothing Closet (a thrift store for the Canton community), and budgeting classes.

The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up, Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County. Also deals with Voter Registration and Absentee Voting. The Auditor's Office also handles requests for one-time economic assistance that may include Rent, Utility for current bills, May be available for water, lights, heating, Medical, hospitalization, and burial assistance requires pre-approval if not for emergency services. All other resources must have been exhausted first. Assistance does require payback and county lien is filed until paid in full.

Financial assistance is provided to households who are willing to go through financial education and learn to be accountable for their spending and saving. Services include supportive housing for adults, rapid re-housing for families, homeless prevention for families, rental assistance, utility assistance, financial advising and education, food box program, clothing closet for adult and children, representative payee services for individuals on SSI/SSDI, and street outreach.

Each conference seeks to serve the gaps in services in the communities they serve. Friends in need may be offered referral to other agencies, advocacy, or direct assistance: which may include utility bill and rent assistance payments, or clothing, food, pharmacy and transportation vouchers to meet basic, immediate and emergency needs.

Providing assistance to those who have worked on a farm or ranch within the past two years. If eligible, depending upon availability of funds, services may include: on the job training assistance, job search/placement assistance, financial support for education training and job placement, and supportive services such as, but not limited to: rental assistance and transportation costs, daycare expenses, tools, uniforms, and food.
