General public health services include professional nursing and nutrition information and guidance on health, safety, and nutrition for individuals, families, and communities. Services such as influenza vaccinations and screenings for blood pressure, hearing, vision, and hemoglobin are available at a fee. Maternal Child Healthcare provides Infant Sleep Safety services, immunizations, and pregnancy support services. Infant Sleep Safety services provide education on infant safe sleep practices and link families to resources when the purchase of a crib is a financial hardship. ​Immunizations services are available for children from birth through age 18 for all universally recommended vaccinations including influenza. The Vaccines for Children's Program provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, have insurance that does not cover vaccinations, are Medicaid eligible, or are Native American or Alaskan Native. For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown location is also able to provide car seats for all ages when the purchase of a car seat is financial hardship.

Items that are NOT accepted include: trash, regulated medical waste, sharps, syringes, thermometers, hazardous waste, aerosols, illicit drugs, or commercial waste.

A volunteer based organization that collects and processes clothing and household goods for placement in a free-cycling setting resembling a retail store. All items are free; if someone can make a monetary donation, there is a box for that, but it is not required. There are no restrictions as to who may acquire goods from the store as its primary goal is to relieve the stigma of poverty and conserve the earth through recycling. Donations for the thrift store are accepted, except for mattresses or large furniture items such as appliances and large tables.

The Auditor is the keeper of County records and acts as a bookkeeper of County business. The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up; Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County. Welfare services include medical assistance, utilities assistance for disconnect notices on heating bills, and burial/funeral assistance. All assistance is based on eligibility guidelines. All applicants are required by law to repay the county for assistance given, per SDCL 28-14. County is payer of last resort after all other resources have been utilized.

Provides a helping hand and necessities once a month to families with children up to the age of 5: diapers, wipes, formula, blankets, personal hygiene products, period supplies and feminine hygiene products, and can provide a car seat one time to eligible low-income families. Mommy's Closet is a safe place for parents or other caregivers to come and problem solve issues surrounding parenting, housing, education, employment, and general finances. Foster parents, grandparents and other caregivers are eligible to receive assistance for children in their care. Mommy's Closet caseworker can provide case management and client support to families to help them: identify barriers to self-sufficiency, assist them to create success plans, provide guidance to families as they stabilize their lives, and provide referrals for additional assistance.

Early Childhood provides children with a learning environment and varied experiences to help them develop socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. Early Childhood provides pre-school activities for 3 and 4 year-old children while encouraging parent participation in all aspects of the program. Early Childhood Programs are offered at a variety of elementary schools in the district. Screenings provide an opportunity to find out more about your young child and his/her development, screenings include: Large muscle development Eye-hand coordination Communication Cognition Vision and hearing Height and weight During screening appointments, children stack small blocks, name colors, jump and hop, cut with scissors, look at pictures, answer questions, and have fun completing other activities. Children birth to 5 are eligible for screening. Infants/toddlers are screened in their homes. Parents will meet with a staff person to discuss options for their child in district early childhood programs.

Walk in assessments available during regular business hours at the Yankton and Vermillion locations. CARE Club - Program for individuals with a mental health disability (i.e. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety and borderline personality) who live in the community. CARE club provides support, assistance, interaction with others and the opportunity to improve consumers existing skills and develop new coping skills. Children's Services - Provides child centered therapeutic services in the home or office. This program provides mental health services to children with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED). The parents, families, and surrogate families of children with SED participate in all aspects of evaluation, planning and delivery of services. Works closely with child-serving agencies and programs.
